In recent light of the Pomni bathing suit reveal, there's been amusing discourse on X about if she qualifies as a loli, seeming to mainly stem from
this post. Short, no ass, no boobs, big wide expressive eyes, totally checks all the boxes. Pomni lovers are arguing about her age, literally bringing in the "Actually, she's a 1000 year-old dragon!" argument. It's just amusing and shows the double standards harshly.
A bit late but I’ve got a few problems with that screenshot and the discussion surrounding it.
To start, the original assumption was that Pomni was modeled to look like a simplified game avatar. The question of “how childlike would her proportions be?” didn’t really come up cause she wasn’t supposed to have proportions. Which is why I’m personally not fucking with the idea of putting her in a swimsuit, at least not without changing her to look more human. Cause she really does look like a child then, which I don’t think was Gooseworx’s intention, but it still just looks wrong.
When it comes to whether I think she’s a loli, I don’t, cause afaik a loli has to be intentionally made to look like a child. And like I said, Pomni’s swimsuit design is rather an error.
When it comes to bashing Pomni lovers, I've never actually seen someone sexualize Pomni and make her look the same way she does in show, they always redesign her to look more like a 25 year old woman. So I can’t really see the “loli pedo” accusations sticking.
I’m excited for the episode either way.
Yeah, this isn't officially a kids' show.
The gun violence and swear words would never be acceptable in a true kids' show. Even the most lenient kids' network wouldn't allow Zooble's comment about wanting extra parts for sex.
That said, the creators know kids make up the vast majority of viewers, and they 100% market their merchandise to them.
It's a faux kids' show. It feels like a kids' show because it's has the maturity of one. Remove the edgy bits sprinkled in now and then, and this would've easily aired on Cartoon Network.
To an extent, Gooseworx cannot control who watches his show, and it’s unreasonable for anyone to expect him to make it that absolutely no minors watch it. But more
can be done.
One thing is… Why aren’t any of the episodes age restricted? I understand that that tanks monetization and essentially makes the video invisible, but with how big Glitch is, I’m sure the episodes would still be found.
Though the merch never felt like it was marketed to kids to me, more so just 18-22 year olds.
