Close, although I no longer have a link to it, Zooble was apparently based on some builder toy where you could make your own figures out of a bunch of oddly shaped and colored parts. Kind of like an abstract, full body Mr.Potato Head. GW probably played with it as a kid.
Where i study, there's this guy who threw a tantrum because Netflix saved the K-pop movie Demon Hunters, saying it was the greatest sin of humanity. Seriously, he sounded like a five-year-old who never learned to take no for an answer, even though that same jerk was praising the movie The Amazing Digital Circus.
I can already picture him as one of those guys who made anti-K-pop edits in 2022.

I think we needed to have several episodes of a post-caine circus. A big underutilized part of the series was the NPCs kept under control by Caine who needs to constantly reset them in order to prevent them from gaining sentience. With Caine not keeping them in check they will eventually develop into entities that are equal to the protagonists with a whole hosts of implications. Pomni can be really be friends with the lizard. The circus could be an actual society beyond the protagonists, Reviving Caine could mean damning NPCs to forever be subhuman forced to constantly be reset.

The whole story was just leading up to Caine (an AI program) making friends and gaining the acceptance off the back of the now pointless death of Jax (the brain scan of a real person). Bravo Goose.
I actually find it quite interesting how these movies are becoming a "midnight madness" style screening, in the middle of broad daylight. It's like they're picking movies to treat the way that Rocky Horror Picture Show is treated: throwing shit at the screen, yelling jokes, singing along to the songs. Minecraft movie, now TADC apparently? Are there others?
Everybody knows that the movie theater is basically a dying breed. If "active participation" style screenings start being more of a thing for movies that aren't 20 years old, I wonder if it will actually revive theaters a little? I mean all these kids clearly aren't going JUST to see the movie. How much is a ticket now, like 20 bucks? I bet the people going for "the experience" would pay more for a special screening where it's encouraged.
Has any theater leaned into this yet to rake in profits or are they all just stymied and upset by all the popcorn and trash wrappers on the floor afterward?

Art can be angsty, and self expressive, yes. But if you are making something meant to be profitable you should make it enjoyable to the public first.
Indeed all Goosework did was hide it better and longer than most. But this really was yet another trauma dump show.

I highly recommend watching the twilight zone episode, I can't find a free version but this review by Doug Walker (calm down) does a good job of summarizing the episode and pretty much laying out every idea from the digital circus.

I'd rather watch some crazy guy's therapy session, so long as it's entertaining, than yet another fucking superhero movie with a generic plot. I saw parts of the Avengers film with Ultron in it lately, and I could hardly believe I was watching something serious with how many times it cut between the actor just standing around or barely emoting, and the CGI fuckfest happening.
Caine was also inspired by one of his childhood toys. He posted it on Bluesky at some point or whatever. There are important differences, of course, but he said the toy was the inspiration. Really, there's nothing wrong with inspiration.
Ultimately, there are things this show could've done better, but the worst case scenario would be people who only watched TADC making their own shows. There are so many cool directions this kind of thing can be taken, by just getting a little more technical.
Like most people, I watched TADC with the commentary from PPP and Josh because I never would have watched it alone. This series is bad, but at the same time I understand why it got popular (don't need Hollywood anymore, lefty gay shit that was hidden until episode 3 and beyond). The "movie's" biggest crimes are that it wastes your time by replaying episode 8 with nothing new, nothing out of Jax was really explained,. and the lack of consistency. With Caine gone in 8, it seemed like the characters could speak their minds and use profanity without getting bleeped. What happened in 9? We're back to the bleeps. The movie is the "it could have been an email" meme coming to life because it was really a 30-40 minute show you could have put on Youtube and Netflix, but hey, might as well milk your retarded fanbase and retarded fans like Doobus Goobus by making them pay $20+ to see it in theatres. TADC was more or less "My Personal Tranny Therapy: The Series." Untitled is the worst episode by far.
Pomni and Kinger were the only likable characters despite Caine was the only one who had any growth (No, Jax being a retarded tranny is not character growth). In a way Pomni and Kinger grew because Kinger stopped acting like a retard and helped Pomni fix things. Pomni adapted to her surroundings while helping her mostly useless friends. Jax had potential, but holy shit did Goose drop the ball with him. I really hated Gengel and Zooble, Zooble being the worse of the two. Ragatha...was just another wasted character who could have easily replaced Gangel and Zooble. Caine was alright. If someone tardwrangled Gooseworx, and trimmed down the show and its characters, it could have been good. Gangel and Zooble could have been replaced by Ragatha.
And here's another kicker: the Jax being a tranny stuff actually reinforces all the negative stereotypes of trannies (unhinged, violent, unstable, etc.). I am enjoying the fact he pissed off a few trannies.

It's happened recently with other movies, so this might be a growing trend. There's been a handful of times I've gone to the movies not because I would enjoy what was on the screen, but I knew the crowd would be unhinged and it would be fun to witness the chaos from a detached position. It's why I knew the tadc crowd would act insane at my theater and I was not disappointed.
One example is I went to see the Taylor Swift Eras Tour movie in theaters opening day, not because I liked Taylor Swift's music, but knew Taylor Swift fans were batshit insane. You have to see these things opening day to get the maximum insane fan saturation. I wanted to bask in their over-the-top energy and I was not disappointed. If I had to listen to some mid music to witness the chaos, fine, but I was there for the crowd. They were insane. An entire movie theater singing to every single lyric, it seemed everyone in the audience knew every single word. They were waving and throwing glowsticks everywhere. Fans passing out custom made merchandise for free to everyone in the theater (when did they have the time?). Dancing in the aisles. Screaming "I LOVE YOU TAYLOOOOORRRRRR!!"
Basically, what I'm saying is TADC fans are just as unhinged and insane as Swifties. They both lose their minds when their favorites are on screen and if you dare critique their "goddess" in any way shape or form, they will have a meltdown and say you are media illiterate.
Was there ever any real reason that the characters ended up looking the way they do? Pomni being a jester or Gangle being a ribbon? It doesn't really suit them in any way. I can't see how their brain scans could've influenced their designs at all. I get Zoobles' dumb quirk is the gay pink triangle, but other than that, why were they given physical traits that have nothing to do with them?
Someone earlier in this thread said the show should've been called "The amazing Digital Toybox," and I can't stop thinking that's an infinitely better name as well. Only two characters look like they belong in a Circus. This whole thing screams of a tot show that would play after Shimmer & Shine.
Looking back, even though Goose says Digital Circus is based on IHNMAIMS, and there are undeniable parallels to it, does the show really deserve to be recognized as that? As many people have pointed out by now, the actual "plot" of Digital Circus barely matters. The dark and horrific elements barely matter. The show is more focused on the therapy talk and gender allegories than exploring horrific concepts and presenting the struggles of desperate humans versus insane AI.
In the end, did it really matter that Gangle is always sad like Gorrister, or that Zooble looks weird like Benny, when absolutely nothing else about their characters are even similar? Nimdok's past plays a part in his character as a source of guilt, unlike Kinger whose involvement with C&A and Caine's creation was a plot device for a plot that again, barely matters. The amount of Ragatha's screentime is all you need to know to realize how irrelevant it is that she's supposed to be Ellen.
Really, Jax and Ted are the only fair comparisons, but even Jax's similarities to Ted was eventually dwarfed by the bigger focus on his masculinity/femininity, his relationship with Ribbit, and the finale where he just dies. No noble sacrifice, no heroic turnaround where he helps the others, he just dies/abstracts and therapy happens.
I'm not saying that I'd want Digital Circus to be 1:1 with IHNMAIMS, but with how often folks advertise it as "It's like I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream, but less dark", is that really true? Is it really a good thing that most folks nowadays know IHNMAIMS as "The thing Digital Circus was inspired by" when most of the similarities don't matter?

At the time, I made a joke about how IHNMAIMS stuck out like a sore thumb among the inspirations, but in reality, it fit right in. Just like how all these things inspired stuff like visuals, environments, and designs that were ultimately just a backdrop to the actual show, IHNMAIMS was just a backdrop for the story Goose wanted to tell. Which is fine on its own, but when people keep emphasizing it as the MAIN inspiration, keep comparing Digital Circus with it, and constantly point to this inspiration as to the reason why Digital Circus is ACTUALLY a DARK and DEEP PSYCHOLOGICAL HORROR show for ADULTS, it doesn't feel right
I haven't seen the movie yet but I'm guessing their design is based on their human version or qualities thereof. Kinger is a king for having made everything and I'm guessing gangle was bipolar which was represented by the comedy and drama masks, the ribbons are just a byproduct of the classic image:
I really hate her design. It doesn't animate well and having a body of ribbons is just dumb. Maybe there's some big brain argument about her body having no substance.
Zooble seems like she was influenced by transgenerism. There's a part in one of the episodes where she mentions picking the right parts to feel good and Jax joking about making her straight.
I saw someone speculate:
Because she was allegedly scanned after being hit by a car, the ribbons are supposed to represent either how her body is basically soup, or that her guts were all out and stuff.
It's probably not that, but I was intrigued by the line of thought.
