Sadly unlikely- it was a 20th Century-Fox production which means it’s now in the hands of Disney :(
20th/Disney still do allow boutique labels such as Shout and Arrow to release their movies on DVD and Blu-Ray
It appears @lemonsolebrother is correct. Forbes article (Archive) released detailing the blu ray release of The Abyss as well as a bunch of other collectors editions for James Cameron movies.

Story is Cameron was alone(!) at the bottom of the tank shooting b-roll and didn't have enough oxygen to surface because he wasn't watching his gauge(!), called for help on the radio (they all had helmets that allowed them to talk, as seen in the movie) but the radio station was unattended(!), then a safety diver spotted him and shoved a regulator in his mouth to rescue him but the regulator malfunctioned and shot water into his lungs(!) so he punched the guy in the face(!) and swam for the surface, somehow survived, and then in true Cameron fashion fired all the witnesses(!).

Close. What happened is that he did run out of air but in a bit of short sightedness every diver (including Cameron) had radios but Cameron was the only one who could actually talk through this radio and so he couldn't effectively communicate what was happening. Then a guy recognized what happened, shoved a regulator but it was fucked and didn't have any air, so Cameron was trying to get away to surface but the guy kept trying to help him so Cameron had to punch him and made a mad dash to the surface. He fired that one guy (for good reason) and took a breather and then resumed filming.

I wonder what kind of color correction they'll do for Aliens? Because Cameron himself said that the film ended up darker than what he intended because they were using a new film stock.

Yes, but I was only referring to the more cheap titles that studios haven't released in years

Hopefully not orange/teal.

Watch James Cameron fuck up the remaster like he did with Terminator 2, hope I'm wrong but don't think I will be
Cameron doesn't own the rights to the terminators films. He sold the writes for a $1 to his then wife. She produced the first two films. Those films have gone through many hands over the decades. So he can't control the remastering process.

He does own the rights to Abyss, True Lives, Titanic, and Avatar though. So he's able to control it. Though, Jim did oversee the initial home video releases for T2. He put letters in the LD releases talking about how he'd use consumer equipment to make sure it would look great on during post.

just got back from seeing it.
On a technical level it's amazing.
yep, this. seeing it on a YUGE (like almost IMAX big) screen helped bring that out a lot. The shots of Bud going down to defuse the MIRV, for example. Really encapsulates the suffocating loneliness down there.
Other than that. It's a very okay film that becomes extremely preachy in the last 15-20 minutes.
Yep, also this. Still, there's an authenticity here that is sorely lacking in movies today. It's preachy, but you can tell ol' Jim really believed in what he was hammering into our heads. Also, a black woman is just....part of the crew. No racial talking-down to be seen. This nigger really did appreciate that.

Its an alright movie. 3/5. Would get another star if the length could be manageable. The pacing kind of sucks.

I did see it in an AMC Dolby Screen. Back row, near center. There's one shot in the second act that's from like a work print or something. it was pretty obvious rough quality. But 99.9% look fine. Nice remaster. I do wish they went back and smoothed out the edges of the compositing, but I think preservation is better.
