Council elections are today and despite the protestations of the government, they are expecting an absolute bloodbath because of the forecast of people using this a Brexit protest vote.

Voters are heading to the polls for council and mayoral elections across England and Northern Ireland.
Elections are being held for 248 English councils, six mayors and all 11 councils in Northern Ireland.
Polling stations for the vote - spanning metropolitan and district councils and unitary authorities - opened at 07:00 BST and will close at 22:00 BST.
There are no local elections in Scotland and Wales.

This is the biggest set of local elections in England's four-year electoral cycle, with more than 8,400 seats being contested.
A further 462 seats are up for grabs in Northern Ireland.
Voters in 10 local authorities in England need to either show ID or produce their polling card before they can vote as part of a trial scheme.
Those in Braintree, Broxtowe, Craven, Derby, North Kesteven, Woking and Pendle have to show ID before they can vote.
Voters in Mid Sussex, North West Leicestershire, and Watford local authorities are required to show their polling card.
Everyone else in England can vote as usual, and do not need to take their polling card or any proof of identity with them.
But in Northern Ireland, voters need photo ID, the polling card received through the post being for information purposes only.
The weather forecast is for clear spells in the west and cloudier further east, with showers or more persistent rain.
Results for about 108 English councils are expected to be declared before 06:00 on Friday.
The remaining 140 are scheduled to come in throughout Friday, mostly between midday and 1800 BST.
The Northern Irish ones will take longer to come through because they have a more complicated voting system.

Isn't the legal/accepted way to settle a tie by flipping a coin? Compared to that if the independent was for remain and the Tory was for leave then it does seem more reasonable to count the spoilt Brexit ballots towards the Tory.

Yeah I think they went with there being an "X" in the Tory section. I just think that compared to flipping a coin it's not really that outrageous, especially if the sentiment of the spoilt ballots aligned more with the Tory candidate.

It'd be another story if the usual solution was a rerun.

Yes, traditionally it is determined by a coin toss.

It's also a bit rich, this late in the day, for a returning officer to be able to say the Tories still "represent" Brexit.

A few independent republican/nationalist candidates have also chipped support away from them and their pro legalisation of abortion stance has also pushed supporters away with some voting for the new anti abortion right wing party Aontú which is made up from former (P)SF members.
The vast majority of Traditional ("Dissident") Republican do not vote as they do not recognise Stormont.

Then the Manifesto written entirely by her unaccountable, unelected advisors (god, this sounds familiar) was published and it was a huge pile of shit that not a single MP or cabinet member had seen before it was published. (Oh look, again.)

The issue now is, with May staying on, the leadership such as the party chairman have been more flushed out for the piles of shit they really are, and the 200-odd seals roaring when she was challenged for confidence

She's going to either leave when she's voted out, or when she pushes through that god forsaken withdrawal bill. It is beyond clear that she has curried favour with either the EU or corporate interests to push this bill through. Most other PMs would have stepped down or been kicked out by now, yet she will refuse to go. Either it is that, or she is suffering from something.

If she goes, so must Hammond at the very least. Reshuffle the cabinet and get rid of him.
