Terry has been riffing on the fact that, since he is a king, if he did do the unthinkable and got a job, he would only need to work for a single hour each week to make ends meet. This is because a king would naturally get a special hourly pay rate!

It's sad to see him fight just to speak in complete sentences. He usually manages it, but it's obviously a struggle.

He's too fucked up to cope effectively with the world, but just un-fucked enough to talk his way out of any long-term help. So he'll just get picked up from time to time for petty shit, maybe get jailed and move on somewhere else, or maybe get put on some 72 hour hold, drugged until he's semi-coherent enough to let go, and just bounce around like that indefinitely until he dies.
 
Schizophrenia needs a very strict medication regimen if even hoped to be somewhat managed which with the situation in the US as it is would only happen for Terry if he went to jail. Problem is there that most prescribed neuroleptics in such Institutions are 1st gen because they are a lot cheaper than later atypical ones. They tend to have pretty massive side effects and are for that reason usually only used as last measure in most other countries with better healthcare.

Terry is one angry cop away from being a lot worse than he is now, I'm worried his story won't have a good ending. It usually doesn't.

I think it must be very taxing to live with someone as mentally-ill as Terry. I think he got kicked out of his sister's for causing trouble at a nearby store, and he was also kicked out of his parents' house.


I imagine something like this was the straw that broke the camel's back when it came to his living situation at his parents' house. When you're old like they are, stress like that is the last thing you need.

Don't know if it applies in this case, but he does have a habit (going back decades) of giving things away or simply abandoning them. Mr God makes highs and lows balance, you see.

Probably got hauled to an impound lot, and then he had to pay to get it back with money he didn't have. It's yet another way cops steal the few possessions homeless people do have.

It's been coming back, which I find interesting, and the doctors using it are giving it a new name. My armchair psychological understanding for those that want a TL;DR is that since some mental illnesses are misfirings in the brainbox, tossing some good ol angry pixies from the wall socket in there can possibly correct what be misfiring in there and with some anesthetics you can avoid a lot of the negative side effects of old school electroshock had to it, with the patient dancing around like a fish on dry land. Personally very interested to see if it becomes a more widely accepted treatment option.

It's never really gone away. They're a lot more selective about what parts of the brain they stimulate than they used to be, although it still has some of the negative effects like fucking up your memory. It's really not been the stereotypical brain wipe from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest for decades. It's still near being a last resort for when absolutely nothing else works, but is more often used for depression than schizophrenia.
