That reminds me that as risible as the dialogue in this movie is, Sarah Conner's line "you want to cross the border with an undocumented Mexican?" takes the cake.

Well, since the thread got boosted...

I’m a fan of the title, myself.

Watched this again recently and fuck me, what a huge waste.

A man walking through a police station is more intimidating, engaging and better choreographed than two Terminators fighting mid-air in a fucking plane crash.

Grace should have been the antagonist.

They would never make a female terminator the bad guuu- *look at Terminator 3*

They would never make a transexual terminator the bad guy

Holy shit! You guys said it was bad but that was fucking horrible!

By now I don't care about PC or non-PC. Just give me a movie that's entertaining. In my opinion the Terminators should be simply infiltrators who use their disguise as advantages in hunting their targets; not playing superhero that would make everyone point them out in a crowd.

Funnily enough, the low budget Resistance game used the source material and themes of the movies much better than Dark Fate. There was no smug need to establish a new universe (where everything is the same but female), and despite design issues you could tell there was love for the franchise.

Also, no power but there's nukes? Basic bitch assault weapons despite cybernetic augmentation? The world building just didn't stand up.

In a better world where the brand is in good hands, Resistance would be considered mediocre at best, a real "Meh" Terminator game among way better other Terminator games that exist in that world.

But we live in the world where the brand is a milked dry joke at this point, and Resistance might be "Meh" but its nothing insultingly awful and woke like the newer movies so we are willing to cut it some slack for being the best of the worst.

And yes, thats really really fucking sad.

Was Resistance's "Annihilation Line" alluded to in the movies? I genuinely can't remember. It was a really evocative name, and I loved the idea of Skynet spreading its defense grid out in such a way - burning and smashing everything so it could ring itself with turrets, execution camps and production facilities.

I dont think so? Even in Salvation it doesnt seem to have been mentioned, there are execution camps and facilities in it tho so maybe it exists but its not shown nor mentioned.

So from what I understand the failure of woke fate has supposedly killed off any future sequels to the original films. So if they ever wanna reboot the series it may mean the only option would be a full on remake of the original.

Either way is a bad idea, just let terminator rest in peace already. I actually like t3 it's got that 2003 trying to beat the matrix sequels vibe. And salvation at least tried to do something different and take place in the future war as opposed to just being send terminator back in time to kill a young Connor again.

Hell even salvation as bad as it was can have that so bad it's good vibe going for it but dark fate was just dead on arrivial.

T3 has aged well, it pales in comparison to the first two but is so much better than anything that came after.

Sometimes I wonder what would have happened had there not been a genre shift with the second movie. Most people forget this but the series became action adventure with T2. The first movie was straight up horror.

Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if T2 wasnt ever made.

Its the best and worst thing to happen to the franchise. It was just so damn good, coming at the perfect time with the perfect crew, that nothing that would come afterwards would ever get close to even half as good.

Im also reminded of a Terminator comic where its set right after T1 and Sarah learns Kyle has survived his injuries so she has an operation to bust him out from the facility he is locked away in. They reunite and its all nice and dandy until a few months later where, aparently, another terminator comes (so it did the whole "bullshit Terminators coming from nowhere" first you could say) but Kyle is able to destroy it but he is fatally wounded. He is able to witness John's birth and see he just brought to life the man he would give his life to (which he just did) and dies right there and there.

It was honestly just a stupid story, Kyle's death in T1 felt like a deconstruction of the hero always making it "just in time" and his injuries having no lasting impacts. He was already bleeding out when they got into the factory but the pipe bomb explosion truly was the killing blow (instead of just jumping away from the explosion just in the nick of time like a lot of action movies did before and after it). This comic bringing him back just so they could kill him off in the same way just felt unnecessary and a pointless addition. Sarah being left pregnant to pick up the pieces while also dreading the future was tragically poetic but still fitting conclusion.

The problem is that they painted themselves in a corner by making part 5 Genysis a pseudo remake of the first movie.

They're fucked if they do and fucked if they don't. I think the franchise should just end for a good 10-15 years before attempting a spinoff or remake.

Thing is, they really felt like they had to milk Arnold while he is still "young" enough to do these roles, throwing the "organic skin aging" non sense to justify his older appearance.

There is NO way Arnie will be able to do another Terminator movie in 10 years (the guy is in his early 70's and while he is a demi god of a man, no way he will be able to still do action-y roles at fucking 80 years old)

The problem on banking on an actor playing a character is that the actor is mortal, that actor will die someday and when it does, then what?

No way they can have someone else play the T-800, thats impossible. They wont have the same physical presence and power Arnie was able to pull off, even if you bring in another body builder turned actor.

Its the case the actor is far TOO iconical for the role. And using CG to put his younger self into the movie is a mostly miss than hit situation. Hell, when Arnold dies, will it still be okay CG-ing him into roles? But thats going into the topic of the morality of CG-ing dead actors instead of just letting them rest in peace.
