At the moment I suspect that I have temporomandibular joint dysfunction aka TMJ TMD TMJD. It is a disease whereupon the jaw joint has a dysfunction which causes several strange symptoms. I have family members who have this disease. Do any other kiwis have experience with it?

If your jaw is naturally out of line I suspect there will be comfort issues in the long run given its precise tuning...

I have a relatively mild case of TMJ. One side of my jaw started clicking a few years ago and occasionally there's a little bit of pain. The clicking switched sides a year later after keeping my mouth open for too long at the dentist. For me, it's probably some perfect storm of post-orthodontic stuff and stress, since my clicking is pretty proportional to how tense I feel on any given week. I wear a mouthguard at night, take a joint supplement, and see a specialist a couple times a year. Good luck with your TMJ and I hope it's not severe.
