I am yearning for the day when e-"sports" finally dies the long overdue and agonising death it deserves.
It's taking a beating now because the dumbasses like Moist who wasted money investing on esports realized it's shitty snake oil (the oil being these "competitive games"), and the excess fun money from past American presidents is running out thanks to inflation, wokeness (wokies don't care about esports unless they can virtue signal), and a shitty Western economy. If it's consolidation, Dota 2 had the worst prize money of a measly $3 million last year compared to the 30s and 40s older tourneys were hitting (3 million is still too much to pay douchebags to play shitty games though). What also isn't helping esports is most of these games suck dick now. If we're lucky, esports will be next to nothing by the end of this year or next year.
I think it's more the meta that's stale. It's gotten to the point where you see two people pick a character, and you immediately know what to expect so you can easily predict an outcome because they wind up using the same strategies, same combo strings, like if they just studied a playbook on how to use a character. Nobody does anything unique or cool or interesting anymore. Even in old 2d games it's gotten boring watching people because it's the same exact way.
It's the idea of being nepotistic and unoriginal that makes the whole ordeal boring
Dota and Mobas much worse when you have a pool of 100+ characters, but it's the same faggots you've seen for the last 5+ years. At least in fighting games there's a small chance you'll see someone go far with an underused character.
Sportsball takes effort. Spamming an overpowered faggot and mashing 90% juggles with a Mishima faggot do not take the same amount of effort sportsball requires. I hate Basketball, but getting a three pointer takes more effort than spamming a gay juggle with a Mishima faggot. I don't need to be physically fit to use Blackrock Fighter 6 Ken or a Mishima.
well it takes muscle memory and braincells to perform the character on a high level. mental sports isn't maybe equal to physical sports but it's sports nonetheless.
Sportsball require physical activity 90% of the time unless your coach benches you due to injury, being a backup, or just sucking ass. Sitting on your ass farming creeps with a shitty moba character isn't athleticism.

Sportsball still takes more effort than using a Mishima faggot no matter how you spin it. Lei was bad, but Zafina and Yoshimitsu are up there too if not worse (Zafina in 6 was a poor man's Voldo before she got better, and if you suck at tricking your opponent don't even bother using Yoshi and Lei). I wouldn't call bears easy to use.
