That tiger was seriously inbred. I believe his parents were from the same litter. Inbreeding in any species increases the risk of chromosome abnormalities. The tiger, and @pedoguyguykrai's cats, have a chromosomal disorder, but not all chromosomal disorders are DS and it still is not possible for an organism with only 19 chromosomes to have a condition that definitionally requires at least 21.

A veterinarian might call it "Down syndrome" to simplify the explanation for a layperson concerned about their cat, and the media might say that in inbred tiger has uwu Down syndrome because most people have at least some frame of reference for what that entails, but it's not actually the same disorder as human DS, and it cannot be.

She hasn't seen her normal and very much non potato daughter since her son was born, instead shoving her daughter on elderly parents.

Like others have mentioned I can see why vets would use "downs syndrome" to summarize technically different disorders in non-human animals. It's not technically what the animal has, but the traits are similar enough.

Ball pythons with the spider gene are vaguely comparable, they usually have at least a slight issue with wobbling and other neurological stuff, most of the time they can still do what they need and have a good quality of life but some snakes have issues so bad they can't feed properly. Breeding morphs with the spider gene is controversial for that reason.

I have no idea on the ronald McDonald House, but I did my dates, it's been a month and a half since Silas was born, and he has the same genetic problem his brother did, which his brother died from in infancy. In a deleted thread/post/comment somewhere on the mother's profile, they mentioned that the doctor's told them there was a high risk to the baby if they had another because it's genetics. Clearly, they didn't listen and got knocked up asap to replace their dead first child, despite being warned of the risks.

Isn't trying the same thing over again expecting different results the definition of Insanity?

All the pictures of him with his eyes open are terrifying similar to Luna's. Apparently God also has tried to collect his little miracle, but the parents aren't having it. It is confirmed his head is growing, if I'm reading this right. They did mention they have no idea what he can see but he can tell light from dark.

"We're talking about getting him on something to make him less fussy." God, how dare he be slightly annoyed or upset about being poked and prodded and most likely being in pain. He does have hydrocephalus, and a host of other problems, but she worded it in her post that he has the same stuff his deceased brother did, but with extra.

Their genetic condition only affects male fetuses, right? In theory I guess they could have bio kids and just abort male fetuses and thus ones that potentially have the condition, but if they're fundies they probably wouldn't go for that option.

Yes. It is also not generally covered by insurance. A cycle costs about $12,000, not including the required medication ($3000-5000) and the preimplantation testing ($3000-5000).

It still costs less than raising a seriously ill child.
