For me, the term fundie is to religion what the term SJW is to activism. I use it to specifically mean extremists who take shit way too far and try to use religion to enable horrible behavior or try to force everyone to abide by their beliefs.

I live in the Bible belt and a lot of my friends had crazy fundie parents, so most of what I know about them is from direct observation.

In biblical times most of the kids in this thread would have never even been born alive, and even if they were I doubt they would be seen as precious miracles. I kinda wonder if stuff like the Jersey Devil originated as someone giving birth to a horribly deformed baby which per the time period was assumed to be a demon and the story spread and people added to it til it became the legend/cryptid it is now.

It's physically impossible for cats to have DS. They only have 19 pairs of chromosomes, and Down syndrome, by definition, requires having three copies of chromosome 21.

well it is a registered thing, cats have their own version of tardism, just like they have their own verision of hiv.
basically catss get a chromosonal abnormality, and most vets call it down syndrome in cats.

I tend to prefer "evangelicals" over "fundamentalists", when talking about the people who are most vocal about abortion being evil and all babies being God's handiwork. If you look closely enough, most of them come from a self-described "evangelical" denomination or association, like the Southern Baptists, Liberty Baptists, Evangelical Free, Pentecostals, Nazarenes, the various Reformed churches, Sovereign Grace, etc. Not coincidentally, these also tend to be the Christian groups that are the most active in American politics, especially the Baptists.

I think it was the mom who ordered it or at the beginning it was probably a mutual decision from both when they discovered his state, but more than likely the mom wants the tube in now, and she doesn't it want to let the son go. If I was the wife I'd simply take the husband to a state that allows euthanasia, talk to a doctor there, get the meds and adminster the death itself, as truthfully starving can take days, and the state of washington allow euthnasia but only if the patient, or the poa of the patient allows it and admisnters the drugs themselves. The thing is though legally speaking the marriage hasn't been technically disolved, so the wife has more legal power than the mom, and truthfully they could probably underneath the fact josh intended to off himself from the get go allow his euthanasia, because he did iniatally intend to die in the beginning and clearly botched the job. the only thing I can see as an impediment to the whole thing is moving costs, but she's clearly getting grift buxx from selling her story and it can be a temporary move, and technically in his state of being either completely brain dead of a veggie he's covered by medicaid, so they can move him to a facility in washington where he can die being covered, I am sure medicaid would jump at the chance of funding a final expense of hospice than continuing to drain tax payer money on this lost cause. that would be the smart thing to do, and possibly the easiest,
truthfully if I was brain dead or locked in I'd hope someone just drugs me to death instead of starving as starving can take days, but the problem is not all states have euthanasia laws, her position makes it completely easier to just move him in to the state that allows euthanasia and finish the job, if he's locked in starvation death can be a prolonged torture if he has some consciousness, I wonder though, how did he off himself? if it was slitting his wrists that won't cause that kind of damage, surely he may have aphysxiated himself and the guards caught during his attempted, but you'd have to be strangling for awhile for you to reach brain death, or damage your central nerve connecting your brain for you to get locked in, as it completely paralyzes all your functions, but your concious and aware, just not in control of your body. Theres also a chance of getting locked in from oding but Idk what kind of jail it was and if he was fresh in jail with no resources, I highl;ly doubt he'd get enought drugs to commit a hero. You need a fuckton of heroin or some other depressent to commit die, and there are the chances you can end up locked in from a botched attempt, thats least likely but still possibly he could've oded from drugs. Also a chance that he may have pissed of a co and have him bash his neck in. that could've caused it but idk....

The wife COULD bring him home, administer hydration via the PEG, care for him, and let him pass from no continued feedings, and just make it clear to the physician. I would get SLP on board as well as PT/OT and attemot oral feedings in good faith. Starving can take as long as a few weeks with hydration, and I personally believe denying someone fluid is cruel. It is not something that's really appropriate for hospice or palliative care.

She could double down and choose to let him die at home and suck it up for a month, arranging for home health I don't feel sorry for the wife or the mother. They both want him dead or alive for their own selfish reasons.

It's kind of scary to think about brain death and being a vegetable and how aware you may or may not be. There is nothing left of your mind if you're brain dead. You have zero awareness and the only thing to do is turn off life support. You can't mistake locked-in syndrome for brain death. There's a lot of hoops to go through to be declared brain dead and they don't make mistakes. I used to be worried about that and didn't consent to being an organ donor, but then I began working at a morgue and learned about what brain death actually meant and have been one ever since.

The kids we talk about here for the most part have little to no awareness. A lot of them only 'express' themselves though seizures and infant reflexes. They don't really get better even if they live, making life-prolonging measures futile and if they're being refused comfort care by their parents, imo almost criminal.

I had no idea that the UK system had been hurt by religion too, but it makes perfect sense now I think about it. I really wish people would stay out of womens' reproductive systems and choices.


I'm not talking about protestants, I'm talking about fundamentalists that are in my particular area of knowledge, which are baptists, not anabaptists or protestants. They tend to be the ones who are excessively vocal about the things people are mentioning here. I've witnessed it personally and it was something I pursued at university. I'm by no means an expert, and I don't mean to tar all fundamentalists with the same brush. If some do believe in what you're saying that's encouraging, but I think most people here are talking about the baptist kind, maybe evangelical.

I would like to believe even if I had a wife addicted to drugs who stole and cheated, I'd do the right thing. I think most people would honor the end of their spouse' lives better. She can't have it both ways and make it into a moral crusade AND neglect him. You have to choose. Also scamming people is unacceptable.

Yeah true if we're talking from a moral standpoint, but again I can understand why someone would grift for this type of scenario, I mean technically he fucked her over, he fucked his mom over, and he fucked himself over, idk if I would've been moral and do the right thing because naturally I hold grudges for people fucking me over and I can acknowledge its wrong, but I can't say I'd blame her because again he did chose drugs over a normal life and landed himself in this position, as well as cheat on her, maybe the grifting and showing his sorry state on tiktok is more her revenge and less on grifting, I mean people can donate to what ever cause they like and if I an idiot is easily parted from his money because of a sob story, then it's less of a scam because buyer beware. Just to be clear, I don't believe he's a good person or that he deserves anything good.

You can do the right thing because everyone else is around, but those accolades are your reward. That's it. They're pretty cheap. You choose the right thing for something so much bigger than accolades. He doesn't deserve better than the death he's getting, but it's still heartbreaking and not okay. He's not as blameless as the poor broken creatures in this thread, but his damage is done. There's no value in punishing him anymore.

I am still thinking it has to be hanging, but if I rember jail is quite sparse, shit especially in southren jails you only get a blanket, and a mat, for bedding, it could be drugs, if its a southren jail you can easily bribe the guards to sneak in drugs, but that requires an inmate with money to burn, and resources, to trade, barras is a hispaniac name no? so probably some connections with cartel from buying, lol, but that requires money or atleast a buttfucking it'd be freaking hilarious if he fucking had to get buttfucked for drugs in the clink before offing himself. Anoxic brain injury in a jail cell is probably hanging on the door or drugs or a combo. He got himself in holding. It's not that tough. Usually holding is a one man cell and he likely got a cursory pat down. Whether or not he had access to sheets, I don't know, but you can hang yourself pretty easily with a long sleeved shirt. He probably didn't have any contact with inmates.

that is still such a bitch way to die, more than likely they'd probably lessen his sentence and put him on probhation. I mean I stayed a week in jail for curbstomping a brony zoophile, I like literally can not not lol at this situation. when I googled him all I got other than an arrest report was a traffic violation, they'd probably go easy on him seeing at it was his first real bigboy felony, god what a bitch, I mean granted a felony in the south would mean lower job prospsects but in other states they would be more forgiving.

I know the definition of a term is going to change based on the party that it is using it (so a euphoric atheist's definition of fundie will be different from a theology professor's) but I see the term "fundie" used to describe even the most vaguely religious things all the time (especially on here) and it's very annoying and confusing.

There are a lot of people out there that would look at me and say "fundie" even though that's far from the case. If only they knew how bad things really are.

Whenever any animal is quoted as having DS, you should mentally replace that with "it's a chromosomal or other genetic disorder that causes dysmorphic facial features. DS is just used as shorthand cos everyone knows what that is and how it looks"

But yeah white tigers aren't a separate species, it's just a mutant variation with white coat. And it's recessive, so they're inbred like crazy to boost numbers. That's how you end up with the derpy looking one that picked up some other fun bonuses from its parents

I love how every time something like this happens, people go on and on about warning others of the danger. It’s like those warning labels on hair dryers that say “don’t use near water”. If you’re that fucking stupid, it’s just natural selection at work.
