It seems to be common for the more extreme autists not to know their own strength. A relative of mine had a baby when she was ancient, and he has fairly serious autism. She managed him pretty well when he was small, but, once he was a teenager, he started (often unintentionally) wrecking shit. I personally witnessed him put his fist through a door, and, these days, their house is in shambles. She doesn't bother fixing anything unless it's vital for the house because she knows he'll destroy it eventually.

I worry what's going to happen to him when she dies. She's in her 70s already.

I would not want to live like that. In a shambeled house because I can't control my kids. It reminds me of the troubled kids who were physically abused so they would just destroy everything as a way to have control. It's sad.

I don't think parents of developmentally delayed/autistic children really think this through. They can't live by themselves, they have to go stay with someone when the parents pass. I guess they just become a ward of the state if there are no family members that want to take them. It's sad. When you have children like this, it is a life long commitment. Not to say healthy kids aren't, but at some point healthy kids can survive on their own. These kids can't.

It's super depressing to visit her house. I've coincidentally had other plans during her Christmas party for the past two years, and, while I was sorry about missing out on catching up, I wasn't sorry about not being in that house, especially during the holidays.
 
the low functioning tism kids are the reason we are seeing more therapy clothes(we dont call them restraints because that would bad for business) which is great but some of these kids parents needed to start making plans with the state for them to move out(be institutionalised as soon as it was clear they would destroy the house) There was a tv program of an adult abandonment case of a low functioning adult who had destroyed the house and was in a "normal" acute psych ward while a group home was found. Which has allowed the house to be fixed and the parents lives to continue( yes they see the kid). Oh and the modern padded room is

It wasn't the main thrust of the legislation, which was to try to do something, anything, about the abysmal education quality and graduation rates in the inner city ghettos and rural hellholes. But stuff like this got into it by the usual legislative bloat, plus the fact that for every literal potato that is going to be propped up in the corner, there are a couple hundred semi functional disabled people who with the right education can actually attain some form of quality of life.

But the tldr of the legislation was both parties were sick of states ignoring all their falling schools, and wanted some measure of actual fucking accountability.

But then they fucked it up by (among many, many other things) making the states responsible for developing the standardized testing that would tell the federal government if the schools were good enough to receive federal money. It became such a massive fuckup that an equally bipartisan Congress nuked it a decade and a half later.

The relevance here though, is that for most states, there still is a requirement to education them until either 18 or 21 depending on the share, even if there is no hope of them doing so much as looking in a single direction. For a lot of parents of profoundly disabled children, it's more akin to daycare than school, something I can't really fault them for in most cases.

I thought daycare center potatos dont attend the mainstream graduation in the USA and maybe able to achieve a sped diploma maybe depending on the state/school/curium used and will true tards thats not possible. Sometimes and often at the teachers/parents cost they may put on a graduation but it won't be part of the mainstream ceremony as these failed abortions dont take normal credit courses needed to earn the mainstream diploma and yes the parents get MAD about this fact and the it wasnt explained at the beginning of teenage daycare

I’m guessing it depends on the state. The tards are usually only offered a “certificate” which is no where near a diploma and definitely doesn’t amount to anything. The parents are told this in IEP meetings, but who knows how many of them actually listen or participate.

As far as graduation ceremonies, I imagine the school board would rather not anger the squealing parents and just let them wheel the little potato onstage with the pink outfit.
 
I know in high school they would give them Modified Diplomas. Which still is a useless diploma. But, they can walk the stage with the other kids. You know, inclusion.
 
I'd think that some of the older severe tism cases could've been taught somewhat to avoid wrecking the place and other behavioral issues but therapies even 10 years ago are trash (and plenty current ones are still trash). Too little too late in a lot of older cases.

But yes, a lot of it is not knowing one's own strength, being unable to gauge distance and ones own body in space, etc. Some of it is sensory seeking which is easy to redirect to something better than punching drywall. One kiddo would always go to one part of the wall that would give easily, but it was also, in his eay, avoiding breaking other things.
 
I have discovered that it is apparently possible to have a child with Autism and not make your entire life about it. Just found out that a friend's son is very high functioning. Didn't know until she posted a pic of her and her son wearing shirts that say Relax, it's only Autism. Her son was an honors student in high school. Passed his drivers test and holds a job.

It's not a real graduation. Kindergartners don't graduate, they are allowed to move onto first grade. The same is true for fifth/sixth graders and eighth/ninth graders, if you're in normal classes and not an extremely low quality school. There is only one true graduation, and that's at the very end of high school, if they don't go on to various college degrees. Something the sped class obviously doesn't have to worry about.

I can't say I'm surprised it extends to the sped class as well, but at this point for the most part the two classes aren't too different from each other. I'm sure they're still segregated though because the regular kids will upset the sped (autistic) kids and the sped kids in turn will upset the regular kids and create an absolute screaming mess.

Early intervention for high/very high functioning kids so they can pass as, or be incredibly close to, normal is important, and I think best in the long run for a productive, and thus happy, life. Unfortunately the autism master race speds disagree and want to set up other high/very high functioning kids for disaster.

I need to stop breaking into threads to preach about Louis Theroux but (and this one has probably been mentioned before in the thread. Possibly by me.)
He did a documentary a couple of years ago called “Extreme Love: Autism”. There was one kid who was basically a skinny pre-trans Chris-chan. He was the most normal. And he at least once threatened to stab someone.
Then the rest of the featured autists were barely verbal and generally VERY aggressive, much like what you’re describing.
The saddest thing about it was the unaffected siblings. They just exist while their Autism Warrior parent focuses on the precious little hurricane of potential danger.

A recommended watch if you like getting mad at autism parents.
