Ugh, can Revie just die already? This treatment clearly isn't working.
I think they originally tried to press for non-invasive interventions only and that's what made her flip. Revie is a toddler and mom wrote:
"Every seizure requires full emergency response! EMTs, ER Visits, hospitalization, airway intervention, PICU level care."

You don't mention all that unless someone has said that running a full code for every seizure, when she has multiple a day, isn't sustainable, or ethical. Invasive interventions hurt, and the goal, especially for a dying peds patient, is to minimize suffering. I'm pretty sure she was just genetically fucked and her genes are just not compatible with any QoL, prolonging that by putting her little body through a ton of interventions isn't going to give her anything but more pain. So yes, stopping treatment is ethically justifiable.

No, because all lives matter, and what if there is a cure tomorrow? I'm sure this keto diet will work wonders, and in ten years Revie will thank her mother for not giving up on her. (sarcasm)

I started to judge people on facebook using the phrase "my child is medically complex", because of Brittany. When I see such phrase, I think "this child has no quality of life and is being kept alive because of parents' egoism".

Many people are trying to convince society, that hospice is not a form of hell, and if somebody is dying, they deserve to go there.
I feel sympathetic for parents, who behave like Brittany, but only for a few months, maybe a year. After that they should realize, that their child is suffering and fighting for its life has no purpose. Brittany should take care of her healthy children. Saddest part is that those children will become some sort of a lolcow, because they were so badly neglected.
That Brittany girl is the kind of insane person who creates a medical emergency just to cause problems. I feel for her daughter, but she can 100% be transferred out if she needs to be admitted.
I don't think Brittany makes Revie worse on purpose. Unless you meant that Brittany over exaggerates sometimes then probably. But there is no actual treatment for Revie apart from comfort care. So she only needs emergency services for resuscitation/seizure stopping, but longer hospital stays are just a form of giving comfort to Brittany not Revie.

She’s spiraling even crazier. How can she pretend that getting “blacklisted” from “Primary’s” wasn’t what she’s been goading them to do for months? Why does it even matter when she hasn’t shut up about how she’ll never go there again anyway?

Also notice how she never actually shares what they said. She claims she’s been “blacklisted,” but the only QUOTE from their letter is “I’m sure this is disappointing.” They probably didn’t really ban her, shes likely making it up.

I’d argue that Brittany does make Revie worse sort of on purpose. She drags her all over the country for stupid reasons, doesn’t have a stable, clean, or organized home for her to live in, refuses care if she doesn’t get her cooch licked by the doctors involved, and probably makes her own dumbfuck decisions about medication, diet, and who knows what else.

IMO their lifestyle alone is enough to be called neglect. They don’t really have a home, I can’t tell where their older daughters live, and Revie spends most of her time lying on dirty floors or splashing in random kiddie pools. It’s bizarre

Maybe they just said, that there is nothing they can do at this particular hospital, and she's interpreting that as getting kicked out?

Right, or they said something like “You clearly weren’t happy with the care you got here so it might be better to seek it elsewhere.” Which she already has. They understandably want her to quit publicly obsessing over them.

I don't think she does either, but she does enough things similar to those kinds of people that I don't think I would want to stick around and find out. I can't confidently think to myself that she doesn't ever do that, and I trust my gut.

She's been doing it long enough she shouldn't be running to the hospital for every little seizure and freaking out about keto diets. That's year one stuff. Something stinks in Denmark. They were right to give her the ban. I don't think we'll ever know the full story. Revie is a child that needs complex and palliative care, but something isn't right here. This isn't just a delusional mother who wants her baby to live. I don't know what it is, but it is weird.

Veya's mom still thinks Canada wants to euthanize children.

It's hard to accept there will always be a real need for pediatric palliative care. Studying dying children helps us better understand dying children. Studying palliative medicine allows us to better allow for quality and quantity of life.

She's running from death so hard she's missing out on life. If you can't gain anything positive from reading a pediatric palliative study, I get it. Does she agree with any pediatric palliative research? Is all of it perpetuating a culture of killing children in her mind?

I imagine the nurses who took care of this family were holding back and wanted to speak their minds that they saw this was a woman genuinely hurting with massively misdirected anger. It is so easy to take her stupidity and ignorance as malevolent. I'm afraid while I might handle it differently, I wouldn't handle it better. People are so tremendously broken and are driven to do and say terrible things.

Sometimes we see people fail the tests set before them, and it's befuddling. Why the actual fuck is this the lesson she takes? She thinks if she just fights hard enough she can stop it. To sit down and really tell her yes, she's going to bury her daughter before her hair turns gray means taking responsibility and criticism for so much. And it might not even work. We have created this litigious society that's made everyone afraid to do the right thing, and people suffer every day for it. She's a freak, but her suffering is real. I wonder how much social media made it worse.

I've thought that keto was commonly known as an meme diet? Like how nobody really takes veganists seriously.
Whaaat? Do your research:
Low Carb Under
some scientific article
a website of some specialist

I'm on the fence about this. For some people it works wonders, but how much of the improvement is keto, and how much is changing diet from shitty American diet into something without processed food? Like somebody literally changes their diet from fast food, weekly alcohol and sweets into an appropriate diet with proper supplementation. I'm not sure about keto. But no, it's not a meme diet. This is why I'm not surprised Brittany wants to try it out. But then using keto on a child like Revie is exponentially harder than using it on an almost-healthy adult. Doing keto properly is complicated and then you have Revie, who takes a lot of medications. Keto changes how meds work. I wouldn't wanna take responsibility, if it turns out, that Revie isn't one of those lucky people, who react to keto well, and she has more seizures afterwards. And if she's on a feeding tube, then she eats some formula, and I'm not sure there is a keto formula. So yeah if keto is an option for Revie at all, then it's an experiment, and as a doctor I wouldn't want to experiment on a child, if the parent is uncooperative like Brittany. Experiments are sometimes necessary (cancer research for example), but then the scientist and the patient need to trust each other. Sorry I sperged a bit and I'm not even a specialist.

Veganists? You mean vegans right? Veganism is like not eating meat but allowing consumption of eggs, milk etc. This isn't an extreme diet and veganists are not always dumb. Vegans are indeed a meme, yet they still exist. I tried to tell them politely, that the vegan diet is a pain in the ass for somebody, who actually studies at university or has a job that isn't influencing. They didn't understand, but that's offtopic.

Anyone else getting a bad feeling about Brit potentially snapping? Obviously Revie doesn't need any help being fucked up so it's not like she'll get by proxied but there are still two perfectly healthy (physically, that is) daughters and a husband in this situation.

I feel like we're watching the first episode of a true crime series unfolding here. I hope I'm wrong.

I want to believe her little families thing will keep her occupied but that already started off on the wrong foot when she gleefully confessed they took money from it for living ("living") expenses while shuttling her tater across the country. If Revie's Rule crashes and burns, and with a drama fiend like her at the helm it most certainly will, I worry for the non-taters in this situation.

Wow a Paediatric Specialist is writing about Paediatric care? shocking, right.
also the ICU is right, that is how it works. there is usually one consultant/attending for the week and they rotate on a roster. During his week, they can't just employ another consultant to come in every day for one kid, it's a public hospital.

I imagine the nurses who took care of this family were holding back and wanted to speak their minds
In order to have some kind of trust and therapeutic relationship it's often the Nurses that help take on this load, as they are with the patient/families for far longer each day than the doctors.

Sometimes it's sort of therapeutic for the doctor to be the "bad guy" and say "we have to do XYZ, we can't do ABC" even if the entire care team is in the same page. Then after the doctors leave, the Nurses can be like "gee that's tough that the doctors made that decision right".

I'm not sure there is a keto formula.
There is, and Revie is on it.

I'm gonna sound very mean, but if you're right, I hope she's depressed and gives Revie to somebody more competent, rather than going full schizo.
There is, and Revie is on it.
Then I have no idea, what Brittany is meltdowning about.

Sorry I can't edit and I gotta post.

The subtitle with google's translate
Everything is going well. Little Rose woke up very quickly, she is scared, grumpy, alternately crying and sleeping, demanding food: Actimel, hot cocoa, dinner. Her throat hurts after taking out the respirator. She keeps saying she wants to go home. Looks like we need her, so it's a good thing the ICU now has unlimited visiting hours. Maybe tomorrow we'll go to the ward together 🤞♥️
And then below there is a link to donate.
I'm sorry but there is so many wires around her, WHY ARE YOU CALLING HER GRUMPY?! Maybe I'm overly sensitive, but if I were to woke up after being intubated, I'd not want to be called grumpy. Also where is privacy for the girl?
It looks like unfortunately a typical facebook site. The mother appears to be raising money for the daughter via posting a lot about her. Hospital stays are free in Poland, but medicine (with exceptions), some therapies and experiments are not covered. Also driving 160 km/100 miles to the specialized hospital is not covered either. But nevertheless you don't need to post everything, have some taste! If hopefully she gets better, she will see those facebook posts in a few years.
She isn't a genetic fuck up apparently. It looks like she has had heart damage from covid, which is not common, but okay.

I've thought that keto was commonly known as an meme diet? Like how nobody really takes veganists seriously.
That's a different, watered down, ketogenic diet. The seizure protocol diet is even more complicated, but not if she's on formula already.
You mean vegans right? Veganism is like not eating meat but allowing consumption of eggs, milk etc. This isn't an extreme diet and veganists are not always dumb.
Vegans are a little nuts, they're anti-honey even. Nothing that came from an animal, ever. So plastic leather over a dead cow, agave (takes forever to grow) over honey...they're the reason dairy free mashed potatoes exists. Vegetarians are the ones going "mmmmm potatoes" but they avoid eating dead animals. Eggs, milk, honey, all fine, some even eat fish and/or poultry but I think they gave themselves a sub-name and I don't care enough to look it up. Most don't care much what you eat so they're fine.

This thread is a great reminder that abortion is a human right. Not only because kids shouldn't be born just to suffer, but imagine if these kids were born to a mother who didn't even want kids? It's bad enough for regular kids who were unwanted by their parents, I can't imagine the amount of suffering an unwanted disabled kid would go through.

I have not met one person who works with severely disabled children and their families, who isn't fiercely pro-choice.
Admittedly, I don't spend time in the hardcore religious versions of the support groups I work with, so I can't say 100%.
But I can say its 100% of the rational ones.

I've thought that keto was commonly known as an meme diet? Like how nobody really takes veganists seriously.
It was originally pioneered for kids who have a genetic inability to metabolize glucose, which leads to byproducts in their blood that cause seizures. It is a horribly restrictive way to live but it was preferable to dying or becoming brain damaged, so people did it. Recently it has become popular as an option to treat various diseases and conditions, and honestly? You can try any diet for a month and see if it helps, and if it doesn't, you are unlikely to have been harmed so specialized dieting should be tried more often, if anything.

There are other seizure-causing/brain damaging metabolic problems, like phenylketonuria, which involve specialized diets to avoid becoming retarded. The blood test done on newborns where they collect blood drops on a big post card is to look for PKU and a handful of other conditions. If you see "contains phenylalanine" on a nutrition label, it is to help these people. They're generally vegan because animal products have so much phenylalanine.

The hartley twins both had some ultra-rare metabolic problem that could not be dieted around and likely contributed to their seizures.
