I didn’t see a thread about pets so I thought I’d start one. Feel free to share cute stories about your pets and ways they make you happy. Discuss animal care and needs. Anything related to pets. Cats, dogs, reptiles, farm animals, any kind of pet.

Right now I’m working on building an outdoor enclosure and pond for my rescue snapping turtle and I really wanted to share that somewhere haha.

Sometimes my dog nudges me with her nose when she passes by. Wonder what that means.

My parents have two dogs, a bojack and a blue heeler/terrier. The former learned to howl from a bloodhound the neighbors used to have, and does so whenever there’s an ambulance/fire truck/police car or tornado siren test. Yesterday when she was worked up, about to howl, the other dog just smacked the shit out of her. It made her start barking and running around in some crazy play mode for like two minutes.

I have cats. Big solid silly cats. One is incredibly nervous and smart and one is a big cuddly boy with massive paws and soft fur.

When certain people are nearby my dog barks at me at such a high fucking pitch whenever I move or even talk, and when I try to calm her down I get told I'm tormenting her. It's hell but I know it's probably to some extent a game for the dog because when I'm alone with the dog it's like a complete 180 unless she wants a stranger to pet her in which case she just charges at them barking and it freaks them out till they realize she's not trying to bite their face off. For context this is not a Large. Dog.

I’m loving this already. It makes me happy to hear everyone’s little things about their pets. They can be a lot of extra work sometimes but they give so much joy in return. And they love you just for caring for them and being you.

I have many pets but won’t unload all my musings at once haha. I have 5 roosters that come crow at my bedroom window first thing when let out in the morning. Super annoying sometimes but also really cute

This is my old-ass man, his 17th birthday is coming up on the 5th of May and it will be his first birthday without his sister who passed early this month. He's deaf as a post, has hypothyroidism, arthritis, and a crippling cheese addiction. Loudest cat we've ever had, love him to death.

There is a thread here.

I have 3 cats. One is the softest scaredycat in the whole world, stupider than I thought possible, and is 6, he's also a piss terrorist who wakes you up at 5 am because its definitely breakfast time apparently. Obviously we still love him to bits despite his idiosyncrasies as bad habits. We lost my older cat, she was 17, last November and I still miss the shit out of her, she was amazing, Full on tortitude but just the best cat you could wish for.

The others are a sibling pair of kittens, well they're supposed to be kittens but one is more feather duster with an intense interest in gravity, specifically how far she has to roll to fall off things. The other is more mongoose than cat and the other day managed to get herself in the fridge- fuck knows how but I'm glad it got opened again swiftly cos I think that might not have gone well otherwise.

These are the babies though from this angle you can't see the full feather duster glory of the fluffy ones tail, its hard to get pictures of them being being still isn't strong on their repertoire:

They have so far taught me this insane thing that if you get two kittens at once its double the price (yes, we budgeted for them, but it still hurt come initial vaccines and spays).

IMG_8027.jpeg I have a standard poodle and he’s the best dog I’ve ever had. I will never own another breed of dog. He’s incredibly chill and intelligent. Never barks unless it’s at the opossum who tries to come and steal his food at night.

IMG_8841.jpeg We also have five fat and pampered chickens who my toddler carries around like they’re his babies. They get lots of treats for being so tolerant.

Happy birthday old man!!!

I've had the worst migraine in a long time for the past 48 hrs and my cat hasn't left my side. Hes been my little purr machine, laying on my chest when I have my ice pack on.

it’s funny to hear you all describe your pets personalities, they really do all have their own unique personalities just like people do.

Here is my snapping turtle:

He’s so extremely chill. I have box turtles too but his personality is very different. Very social with me in a way I wouldn’t expect from a turtle. Maybe because he knows I saved him. I found him in a dire situation hit in the face by a car in the middle of the road. His beak was broken off and he’s blind in one eye. I decided to keep him permanently because he is disabled now and also we have a bond and I’ve come to love him.

I got a bird, great bird. Doesn't fly. From Kansas originally. But see the thing if it is, he's not a bird. More like a dog actually, Barks, shits on the floor during thunderstorms. Price tag said it was a bird, that's how it rung up at the register. I don't even like birds.

What are you gonna do though, really? This is just how the world works.

My old baby recently turned fifteen. I personally don't think she looks a day over seven ;)

We've had her since she was a kitten, and she's the longest-lived of all our cats. She has a very unique personality; super sensitive, whip-smart and very, very affectionate. She used to sleep on my face, and when I was home for Christmas she didn't leave my side for days. She loves to chat to her humans as well. She doesn't like other cats at all besides the ones she was raised with. Now that she's up there in age she spends most of her time sleeping and you have to pick her up if you want to bring her anywhere due to her arthritis, but I'm grateful to have spent most of my life with such a lovely cat.

What kind of bird do you have?? I just watched a news clip the other day about a grey macaw that witnessed his owner being shot to death by his wife. He kept repeating what he saw/heard “I’m gonna shoot! Get back bitch! No don’t shoot!”. The bird helped get the woman convicted.

Happy ending to the story was that the man’s ex wife ended up taking the bird and she seemed to really empathize with his trauma. She was in the comments saying how it was actually her bird to begin with and the guy wouldn’t give him back when they split up.

It really made me want a bird but I have way too many animals already haha

Sweet lady ❤️ It warms my heart to see people writing so much about their cats. My original 5 cats used to be my world when I was younger. 3 have passed away over the years and now I just have my two little old ladies, who are about 14 and 16.

I love the dog talk too, I have two bulldogs. One of them is my best friend I love him so much. Sleeps smushed up against me at night like a human with his own pillow. The other one isn’t as attached to me but I love her too of course.

Behold in all his glory the Great Jaghatai Khan. I'm pretty sure he is some escaped lap experiment to create the world's most domesticated cat. He can't hunt to save his life but bless him he tries his best. Just a big black and white blob clumsy stalking towards his prey. He is also great with small children.

He is so adorable the way he takes care of his hens.

I would kill for all of your cats, btw. They're glorious.

I've wanted a cat for years and years, but it's just not in the cards right now. For now, I'll live vicariously through you all. Please give your cats scritches for me and tell them they're perfect.
