Tales of the Competency Crisis - How do I into anything?

What is going on with Americas bottom quintile?

But sometimes, this particular problem occasionally resolves itself in an incredibly barbaric manner. Ok, it actually doesn't with the way things are with how we're legally allowed to let an hoard of completely feral children (ok, I know that it's cheating to use an specialized school as an example, but some of these kids genuinely can't be fixed) to go on with their lives instead of finding them an place where they can't harm the public after they graduate. But things have always been shit for decades and it usually ends with an temporary punishment for an lifelong problem and no politician wants to foot the bill for bringing back the asylums.

Forum's share & copy a link bit is kind of broke, on my end. It should be fixed by now

Unless some miraculous breakthrough in multiple branches of physics occurs, nuclear fusion is nothing more than a pipedream that even if possible will not be cost effective, assuming any net-positive reactor can be made.
How viable it is remains to be seen but they're about to build the first commercial fusion power plant so I'd say some progress is being made. There's also several startups, all exploring slightly different configurations for reactors, with many making some impressive gains.

Another thing that pisses me off massively about renewable-acolytes is the incredible amounts of double standards that they don't seem to notice.
Those aren't double standards. Their standard is "we get what we want always and you get nothing." When you realize that's the standard, everything makes sense again.

Look at demographics below <20 yo. That and the absolutely terrible modern teaching methods.
There was a video posted a while back about how they intentionally destroyed literacy education in lieu of "Critical Literacy Theory" which teaches kids to be activists in the guise of reading. "Read this and understand the oppression and social dynamics involved in See Spot Run." Kids who went through this indoctrination hiding as education can't even attempt to read beyond their reading level, can't pass most literacy tests, can't handle context cues, etc etc. They have to be told what to think about something they're reading, they are actively pushed away from forming their own unapproved opinions.

And in another example of leftists being bit by their old nemesis, second order knock on effects, people who suffered through this retardation can't write for shit. It's one reason (the other being that woke women took over all publishing in the US to gatekeep righties from the culture) that modern writing is so goddamned nightmarish.

When they scream that "boys aren't reading" understand that they're really screaming "boys under 20 years old aren't being indoctrinated like the girls are."

What you see playing out before you is yet another aspect of a controlled demolition. A gentle dismantling of all the old structures of control ongoing right now, friends. I'd like to start with a bit of prefacing. I promise it all ties together as you read along:

I would suggest that if one were granted an "exit survey" at the end of their lives and asked if they were honestly able to live their dreams, there would be scant few checkmarks on "yes". Most are varying degrees of miserable on any given day, or settling, or making themselves feel small enough to fit into a life they never pictured for themselves.

This extends far beyond the job situation, of course. I would suggest anyone reading this post is intimately familiar with that in their own personal life as well.

If so many souls feel as though they are not being granted the space to dream, to create, to be..then it would stand to reason that upon the "feedback" section of that exit survey, many would be writing what they would change about the experience - yes?
How they wished they had more time with their families or friends.
How they wished they could have 'afforded' to travel. To see the world.
Meet new people and cultures.
Spend their days painting or in their woodworking shop or underneath their favorite car tinkering away.
Living in their passions instead of obligations they never truly wanted, yet felt convinced was "the way it is".
Not allowing that spark we all felt in childhood to be squashed by the control structures of this ridiculous place.
To live in happiness. In joy. Fulfillment.

How many of you would write similar ideas into your own feedback? I'd suggest almost everyone reading this sentence would do so.

So - let's bring it full circle! This thread speaks of the woes of a competency crisis. I would ask..competent as referenced by whom (or what)? What does the term even mean to you, dear reader? The capability to integrate into society? To be productive as measured by those who seek to keep you in invisible shackles? In a sick and dying societal structure propped up by fiat debt? If you were just now hitting the age where you were told (by those who have chosen to yolk themselves to these very control structures) that it is now expected of you to "work for a living"..

..would you truly be on board with that? Especially for those of us older and wiser enough to know what we know now? Would you?

This 'crisis' is a vital part of watching all of 'the old' fall away and make space for something much brighter, grander, freer, and fulfilling. No matter what it looks like now, it's all happening to bring in something so much better than what we've all lived so far.

Take heart, friends. Try not to give your attention/energy/anger/outrage away to the death throes of 'the old' as it falls apart. It was never serving you in the first place, and it's beyond time for it to fade into memory.

To me, in the context of a competency crisis, a lack of competency refers to being bad at your job, especially when your job is related to important infrastructure. I agree that your job is not the end-all-be-all of your existence. However, if you spend a significant part of your life doing something, it's a form of self-respect to do it well. It means you think that what you're doing is worth the time and effort to do properly. It also means that you care enough about your fellow man to make his life a little bit better in whatever way you can - assuming your job isn't inherently parasitical.

I understand that not all failures of competency are deliberate or even avoidable (for instance, the old guard gatekeeping critical knowledge), and I understand that you do not need to set yourself on fire to keep someone else warm. Everything else you listed is also important. However, the mindset of living a fulfilling life is not in opposition to being competent at your job - I'd argue that the two go hand in hand.

ut Zoomers seem to have some kind of extreme aversion to the concept of working Overtime
I'll use myself as an example.
I make $25 an hour. Industry average (which actually skews low for my postion) is $32 an hour. OT puts me at 37.50 an hour. Why would I spend extra time out of my day, that I would rather spend on other more meaningful things, for $5 above the average, if not the actual average for my postion? Additionally OT does not acrue you extra PTO/Holiday hours either.

Overtime should be strategically done.
Does it benefit me now or longer term? If it’s a one-off, short term and brings an immediate gain, do it.
If it is something that creates a reciprocal, then do it - so if you put yourself out now, and you hep someone out and then further down the line they help you out.
I often work odd hours, and that means that when I need to go in the day and do something like a child medical appointment or the dentist, I can. Because you know I’m flexible, I’ve been dealing with Japan at 5am for a while now. Or when a colleague’s husband left her and she was grieving and could barely function, I took most of her workload and have the rest to other volunteers - she later did something really beneficial for us all, and she could have jus signed herself off and or resigned.
If it’s constant overtime, as a routine, with no short to long term benefit, and expected, and to jus stop your company from actually having to resource properly, don’t do it

What meaningful things? Do you have hobbies that aren’t sitting at your PC and playing goyslop? Because if you’re going out and hanging out with your friends, that’s fantastic, great use of your time. That being said, it’s not about the effects of one or two hours of overtime, let’s say you pick up 8 hours of overtime over a week, that’s an extra 300 bucks in your paycheck, if you do that every week, that’s an extra 1500 a month, that’s rent, that’s an extra 15K a year, that’s decent money. Imagine the kind of shit you can do with your boys if you’ve got an extra 15K, forget even about saving it, you can go to Japan or really anywhere with that kind of money. Let’s say just for the sake of example you take that 15K, and put it into the S&P500, assuming an average 10% return, in 40 years (assuming your 20 for this) fhats 678K, and yeah maybe that’s closer to like, 100K in today’s money, but it’s still at the VERY least a year or two of comfortable living expenses in retirement. And again I don’t know your job situation, maybe they just are not gonna give you that overtime, but if you can take it, you don’t even need to grind like me, you can just work an extra hour here and there. I’d suggest working towards something you want, a car, a trip, not even something you expect to get a return on, something you truly enjoy.

What meaningful things?
Well let's see. Building firearms. Tending to my garden. Caring for my chickens. Helping out and hanging out with close friends. Helping my grandparents with house/lawn maintenance. Any number of things more valuable than putting in time at a company that pays ~25% below average.
As for the rest, I have no need for that money. I have simple and cheap tastes. I personally have no desire for grand trips or expensive cars materially i have basically everything I want (barring land which is still years off due to mortgage payments, etc).

And to @Otterly's point, that only works for white collar IMO. If you're in a blue collar corporate job, you get flexibility if you use PTO/Holiday. Otherwise you had better come in, on time, on the days you're supposed to. If your boss is understanding and appreciates your contributions, it still doesn't matter because the writeup is automatic, and over his head and out of his power. Fair point about the short term though, I'll stay an hour after if we really need to pull something off every so often.

In short, "What meaningful stuff do you even do outside of work? You can just work more! And if you work more you can have money to not work."
It seems like you're trying to justify this to yourself more than trying to convince others. @Among Us Gaming is saying that he's underpaid already and overtime for him is not markedly above average for where he should be to begin with so it's demoralizing to devote even more hours to his work when he could be spending that time doing whatever else he wants to do. I don't say this to be rude, but I think you're a type that is very easy for managers to take advantage of and need to be careful to avoid burnout.

And to @Otterly's point, that only works for white collar IMO
Yeah I’d agree with that. And having worked my share of retail/bar etc as a younger woman, once the clock runs out I’m gone. There would need to be a very good reason to stay for overtime.

Now that us elder zoomies are in our mid twenties and the question of children comes up more and more often, talking about the moral merit of having children in >current year has become more common, at least for me, and alongside it the question of whether one should strive to try and make change in society to offer a better world for their kids. One thing that kind of surprised me is that some of my peers have inherited this retarded shortsightedness where they say "why do I care what my kid'll have to deal with? I'll be dead by then, not my problem!", or even better, the anti-natalist perspective of "who cares if we get replaced? I'll die anyway, not my problem.", all while talking about how shit everything is, and how much better everything was when we were kids ~10-15 years ago, and how its not worth it to bring children into this "horrible world". I blame the fucking boomers. I don't know how it is out west, but down here in the Balkans a lot of older folk have this tendency to wax poetic about how amazing everything was under socialism, about the good old days of Yugoslavia, and how much worse it is now compared to how it was then, but not because they voted in corrupt shit heads or let NATO/the US run roughshod on us, noooooo, but because they were cheated by... everyone! One day its the Albanians, the next day its the Greeks, then the Westerners, then the Bulgarians, then the Macedonians, then anyone else within a 2000 mile radius. I think it has instilled this sense of poison nostalgia in a lot of people from my generation where they just constantly look at the past with rose tinted glassess and immediately dump accountability for the shit state of our society on someone else.

One thing that also strikes me as odd is the whole education system. Goes without saying that it is hyper-corrupt, but even in places where there are genuinely great teachers trying to uplift and educate their students, the retarded brain-poisoned parents ruin that too. Case in point: I had to attend a parent teacher conference for my sister a few weeks back. One of the topics brought up was that a lot of the children, and these are 17-18yr olds at the tail end of highschool, mind you, are failing in basic literacy, with the worts scores out of any subject coming from the language class. The language class is already a gimped version of what it was when I was in high school, which itself was a super gimped version of the one the boomers had, and still, this stupid retard cunt in the front row starts kvetching about how its just too hard for her daughter to learn trite garbage like history or her native language. She'd applied to a college of fine arts, what need have they of basic literacy? I shit you not it made my head spin.

But despite all that, being a doomer is still the gayest thing you can do. Even with the boomer crud and shit education overhead, good, fucntional people still rise up from the sea of chaff, no matter how dire things get. Good people can overcome bad means. Failing to procreate just lowers the chances that the next generation might ascend past whatever current bullshit the world is going through. That is the real tragedy of the doom/narccuck, he not only cucks himself, he also cucks the rest of the world, forever.

As for the rest, I have no need for that money. I have simple and cheap tastes. I personally have no desire for grand trips or expensive cars materially i have basically everything I want (barring land which is still years off due to mortgage payments, etc).
Well you’re clearly set and don’t need my advice, I’m very happy for you. Understand that most “Doomer Zoomers” are not in your position, I’m not talking about a man like you who has clear direction, and is in a position where he can enjoy life, I’m talking about the “I’ll never own a home, and it’s all pointless” group of young people. Most zoomers are unable to see the light at the end of the tunnel, your clearly bathed in it.

To play devils advocate, if you're stuck in a crappy service job paying <$16 and hour with no real career progression, or you're on month 6 of "I have a real degree and an internship and still can't get an interview" that doomerism isn't terribly far off from reality.

What will giving up get you in any part of history?

Shits fucked but do the best you can.
