Tabletop Roleplaying Games (D&D, Pathfinder, CoC, ETC.)

Wellp, it's official. I'm now a paid GM for Call of Cthulhu. It's peanuts, but it's a bit intimidating knowing folks shelled out a few bucks for a one shot with me at a local store. Fingers crossed.
Congratulations, I wish you the best, can even provide scenario hooks if you need any and whatnot but what you really became is a service provider and they're allowed to complain now. This is one of the reasons I would never Keep for pay. But I hope you succeed. So what's the location and age you want to DM in? One shots or a campaign? Which race or cult/deity?

It's going to be a one shot, pre-gen characters. Set in the 80's. Reservoir Dogs but with Cthulhu Mythos. Six criminals after a violent heist get tormented by horrors while waiting for their contact, and yes, one of them is a cop. The diety is alluded to be the King in Yellow, but the closest the players will get is one of his messengers.

There's been a bit of drama in the campaign I'm a player in.

Player had to quit the campaign. In his final game, he arranged with the DM to turn traitor and try to summon an eldar god. We didn't know this. The drama? His PC OC didn't win. The DM said that would've ended the campaign right then and there. Now he wants to put the toothpaste back in the tube and retcon it so he goes down a blaze of glory. They agreed to have words in private.

I've only seen something like this once before, but it was the other way around. Player quit, DM had the PC turn into a boss monster.

Oh, man, the players will be so distracted by the homage that you could probably even sneak in a Mr. Yellow without them realizing.

Strangely enough, there isn't a Mr. Yellow. There's a Mr. Gold, but he's an NPC that dies during the heist. Though I might change the name of the herald from Mr. Grey to Mr. Yellow now that you put it in my head....

Very conscientious. The world is better with people like you in it who actually care about the dice.

Or a Mr. Pink and the vilest act he could commit would be to refuse to tip which would cause SAN loss to everyone at the table.

Track down Tatters of the King, Fatal Experiments for the scenario Tatterdemalion and Delta Green Countdown for the Hastur Mythos chapter if you're planning to drop them into Carcosa. These will be of great help to you. I would also recommend the Cthulhu Now supplement for the 80s as it has nice scenarios.

The survivors do end up in Carcosa, but that's the end of the scneario. I also have a ragged old Cthulhu Now in my bookshelf. I may run "The Evil Stars" down the road if I like this group.

I don't even know a fucking Jew has the balls to say that...

I like the one with the Colour a little better but TES is a good one too and could be linked to the story you're writing. The survivors could end up hanging around GLC as a bodyguard, a con man, a pimp or a drug dealer. And then they see the Yellow Sign and freak out.

Anyone who survives but doesn't go to Carcosa in the scenario basically ends up a wandering half-real phantom. I'd use him as a red herring or ominious omen.
