Just out of shot here is their story about the binders scandal (which was broken by the Times or Telegraph, I forget which), where Mermaids was caught promising to send breast-flattening devices to girls in secret behind their parents’ backs.
Guardian have not covered anything since — not Jacob Breslow, not the Charity Commission investigation, not the National Lottery suspending funding, not Darren Mew, not the DfE and other groups ceasing to direct people to Mermaids, not Miriam Cates calling for a police investigation in Parliament today.
Something to bear in mind when the troons start shrieking about how transphobic the Guardian is.

The Guardian (and the BBC) demonstrated their contempt for women when it took them like a week to report on that mass sexual assault that occurred on NYE in Germany several years back because they were afraid of offending the muslims. Not surprised they're taking the same wait-and-see-and-hope-it'll-all-go-away approach with children. It's Savile and muslim rape gangs all over again.

The "Jake" at Jake@Mermaids.org.uk, who the kids were supposed to respond to about the bedroom photo shoot, is likely Jake Edwards, an FTM girltroon who, along with her fellow FTM girlfriend Alex Bertie, was a Youtuber for years, telling girls if they didn't like being a girl that 100% means they're totally trans, and bragging about how great it is to shoot testosterone and put large objects up her ass.
Throngs of middle school and high school girls crushed on them and hung on their every word. I guess since Jake was such a good recruiter of teen girls to troon out, Mermaids threw her a bone and made her communications/social media assistant.
Another great hiring decision by Mermaids.

Can a UK dweller explain to me why the fuck does their government give money for charity? and how a charity remains a charity if it receives government money? it is literally a government institution at this point.

I guess specifically in Mermaids’ case they mean the National Lottery funding?
Once upon a time only state-approved lotteries could run in what is now the UK, and the current National Lottery was set up in the early 1990s. As part of that, some portion of the takings are put aside for “good causes”, and the bodies that decide what is a good cause are ultimately the responsibility of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. A lot of the funding for the UK’s Olympic athletes comes through the Lottery.
All these decisions are made at “arm’s-length” so it’s not as if the Ministry of Nonces has a line-item for getting X thousand girls to chop their tits off or Y thousand boys on puberty blockers. But that also means that the government of the day has limited control — even if you convince the relevant ministers they may not be able to do much directly to halt funding.
These bodies are generally referred to as “quangos” — quasi Non-Governmental Organisations — and some may make grants in their area themselves (ie it’s not just the Lottery money). For instance, English Heritage (looks after our castles) used to be a quango (bit complicated now though).
Sadly not. If I get time I’ll see if I can round up a selection of the blue ticks who are still supporting them after all the revelations (looking at you, Owen Jones!).
Not sure how much is in his thread that @OttoWest linked, but Munroe Bergdorf has his own history of safeguarding failures. (“Come speak to me privately little kiddies, I can be your tranny big sister!”) Lily Maynard wrote a great post about him a while back (archive).
Presumably with mermaids it’s because their sex organs are indeterminate and mysterious?
