I fail to see how it is a weird position for progressives since one their main war cries has always been "her body her choice". They always stress the property interest in their bodies. Whether it's prostitution, aborition or surrogacy, their argument is the government don't gets to tell them what to do. So ironically this is one of their more logically consistent positions.

Have you ever heard of gold diggers? There are absolutely people who will be your friends or pretend to love you for money.

Pregnancy, even modern pregnancy isnt just inconvenient (you have nausea, you balloon up, you can't eat what you want, etc) it is risky. It will change your body forever and it can damage it. And it's 24/7 for nine months. All of that just to have no relationship with your offspring?
That's just not something you do for others if you have a choice, and if you love yourself. Anybody who thinks differently just have the utmost contempt for women and think they are put on this earth to be things that carry babies and shut up.

Pregnancy is by no means easy, but some women have an easier time than others. The morning sickness also goes away after a few months.
The problem here is that the baby delivered by surrogacy is not the surrogate's baby. It was conceived from donor ova and donor sperm. It wasn't her baby to begin with, and the surrogate made a choice to deliver the baby for someone else.

Yeah, what other way would you have it? Seriously, do you want the government to tell you when you can take a shit?

I suspect what you really want is a government that controls women's bodies, and by extension, their available choices in life. I think an adult woman has every right to be a surrogate if she wants to be one. I think the same thing about whores. It's not harming you, why do you care?

I've always thought this about IVF. If you're infertile nature is saying don't reproduce. Then you fight against it? It defies natural selection and literally sets future generations for health problems and other horrors. There's something so fucking gross about it. If we can learn anything from modern life, it's that playing god is a monkey's paw.

Do you really want the government to be able to regulate when and whether you can have a baby? That would be like China under One Child Policy.

Edit: If we're talking about removing a fetus and putting it in someone else (instead of artificial insemination) then yeah, I'd imagine there's probably sketchy health complications that could come from that.

It's created from her own body. Aside from the initial few cells, she provides all the raw biological material for the child to grow inside her. She gives it the antibodies it needs to survive in the hostile environment outside of the womb, passing them via the placenta throughout the final trimester. She made the child, even if it was from the blueprint of others, it is much more her baby than anyone else's.
