What bands have you seen live as a support act that absolutely blew you away.

Bleed From Within when they were supporting Slipknot was fkn incredible. From the first note of the first song there was a giant pit and the entire crowd headbanging.

Better than Slipknot really.

Done my usual and booked whatever death/doom/black metal gig was coming up, main band was called Conan but the support was Wallowing. Dressed like all black beekeepers with lights in the centre of their chests, dark deep space sci-fi themed band. Very interesting.

Tribulation was great when I saw them open for Cannibal Corpse as well as a later date when they opened for Abbath. Swedish death mixed with Gothic metal and the members look like vampires.

It used to happen a lot back when popular bands were freer to choose the opening acts for their tours, and they'd just pick unknown bands they liked, sometimes far superior live acts. Rarely happens now. The first two bands I ever went to see were Love & Rockets and Violent Femmes, who brought along some unknown losers called the Pixies and Jane's Addiction, respectively.

Most memorable was the Foo Fighters (the decent early Foo Fighters) getting fucking obliterated by Shudder To Think. Huge competence gap that the sound guy couldn't hide by making the headliners painfully loud.

Some venues still have local, really unknown acts open up for touring bands and that's a great way to discover new music.
I fondly remember my first Hobosexual show, when they opened for the Black Keys while they were touring Brothers. Hobosexual brought the house down playing some downright filthy blues rock, and you could instantly tell who in the crowd had gotten into the Black Keys off of the first few records and who was there for the first time now that they were getting mainstream attention.

Probably the one on my first girlfriend's sports bra. The way it went round her ribcage and helped prop up the cups truly blew me away.
