Did people abandon the thread? I just started watching the show and I really like it. That said there are some worries I've got. Season 1 already has the episode about lynchings and black people and race mixing. They even mention "people of color" multiple times, and this was a show that started in 2005. Apparently it ran through 2020 and its got me worried. Does this become a problem as the series goes on?

Nah, just stick to the first 5 seasons, everything after that is meh since the original director left.

Currently rewatching supernatural in the background.
Watching it all at once, the drop in quality is amazing.
Season 1-5 have all clear direction and nice escalation of stakes, while later seasons don't know what they're doing half time.
S1 Finding dad -> S2 whats up with Sam+killing yellow eyes->S3 saving Dean ->S4 Stopping the release of Lucifer -> S5 Stopping the Apocalypse
Together with that we go from introduction to monsters, ghosts and demons, in S1, to special kids + demon conspiracy S2, S3 is more focusing on the biggest demon faction, S4 brings in angels and S5 has the devil, archangels and everything else.
Compare to later seasons, it's unclear when things are building up to something or not. Most the time they aren't but 5 episodes from the finale they'll make some shit up. Established rules get bent, powerlevels get wonky, new things keep getting introduced that either contradict previous stuff or later gets ignored, and the horrid fanfic level writing makes it worse.
Season 6 is a meandering mess, 7 has leviathans so at least there's some goal, Season 8 is another mess, with the trials giving some semblance of purpose half way through, and at least the introduction to the men of letters is interesting. Season 9 with Metatron and Abbadon is also messy, you would think having two antagonist would help, but the storylines run parallel to each other and don't really mesh. Season 10 is top angst with the mark, ending with the introduction of a big bad Steyn family that gets killed like 2 episodes later, and ends with killing death. Tip top writing there. And season 11 has the darkness, and more fedora tipping the you could handle.
Currently just started season 12, with the brit men of letter, which makes no sense, beacause the where were they during all the world ending crisis comes to mind.

Another thing of note is that in later seasons all the supernatural beings lose their bite, demons are not "scary" anymore, and angels went from a single one being the terror of hell, to mooks. And conflict resolutions went from shooting, stabbing, fighting their way through to a pep talk or something gay along those lines.
