Culture Sunrise's David Koch stuns panel with Usain Bolt slavery 'joke' - """""""""Joke""""""""""

Sunrise host Kochie landed himself in hot water after a bizarre slavery "joke".

The Channel Seven Sunrise panel was left stunned after host David Koch appeared to make a "joke" about slavery during a segment on Jamaican-born athlete Usain Bolt.

The on-air gaffe occurred as sports reporter Mark Beretta was reading a story - alongside co-host Sam Armytage, Natalie Barr and Koch - following reports Olympic legend Bolt could leave the Central Coast Mariners Football Club.

“So the Mariners sell him for money, they make a lot of money out of it?” Koch asked.

“It’s a win-win: You keep him, great. You sell him, so be it. That’s the tough world of professional football,” Beretta said.

“Who said slavery was over — anyway. No,” Koch said, before quickly changing the topic.

The camera quickly cut away as Natalie Barr looked on in distaste.

The Mariners can't actually sell Bolt to another club because the sprint legend hasn't signed a contract with the football club.

"Kochie" later doubled down on the gaffe via Twitter saying it was an error.

But social media users were quick to jump on the "joke".

Koch took to Twitter to clarify his comment and said it was a reference he used for sportsmen and women who "want to trade clubs or change jobs in sport" that clubs can't keep them

On the one hand, this is a mountain out of a molehill. On the other hand, David Koch is obnoxious so seeing him get some heat is entertaining.

Lol @ "joke" being in scare quotes. "We at SBS cannot confirm that this was an attempt at humor."

Right. Koch was expressing his belief in chattel slavery to a famous black dude on TV.

It seems conclusive to me that this "joke" is proof David koch believes with every fiber of his being that black people need to be sold for money. The sentence is of course death. We will take his pleadings under advisement prior to carrying out the punishment.

It's weird seeing news organisations quote Twitter, because it has never been so obvious that Twitter has no influence outside its hugbox. "social media users were quick to jump on the "joke" yeah no shit, they jump on everything because they are reactionary idiots.

And this incident is like a microcosm of everything wrong with the woke reactionaries. They don't give a shit about slavery or anything like that, their only issue is that it's distasteful and it gives them the vapours.

Damn, Koch... have a little cultural sensitivity. Niggers don’t like being the butt of slave jokes.

You're talking about the guy who bullied his way into the ambulance with the rescued Tasmanian miners. Sensitivity isn't in his vocabulary.

He should never have moved out of the Sunday morning finance slot.

Despite being a hugbox, Twitter isn’t like the days of yore on Tumblr. The leader of the free world yells on it every single day. Social media has more power than ever, unfortunately.

Uh oh awkward joke from on air personality trying to fill time? Time to launch every single nuke, destroy the planet, there's no recovering from this one.

Isn't that the same thing that KANGZ and woke types say though? I've heard the argument that the NFL is the modern slave trade (because slaves got paid millions a year, I guess?) from idiots more times than I care to remember. Or did they drop that as soon as that "Take a knee if you like to suck tranny dick" thing started and football wasn't a "Republican" thing anymore?

That took all of 30 seconds to find.

NCAA is a fairer case than NFL. The colleges make shitloads of money from the student athletes, and pay them nothing. The NFL pays a shitload of money, so if being paid millions of dollars a year to play games is what slavery was like I don't get why anyone is complaining about it.
