As others have noted, he's repeatedly talked about how he "saw" Stolas on a wall as a child in some fever dream or something and later talked about forming a pact with him or some such. As a self-proclaimed "occultist" he's edited and sold public domain versions of books about things like this including the Ars Goetia which gives instructions on how to summon demons and what each one can supposedly use its powers to give its supplicant. It's fair to say he's a retarded faggot and you don't believe any of it, but Tarl himself unironically believes in demons and thinks he has a direct connection to this one in particular.
