When I was preparing to be a malpractice machine, many of my peers gobbled adderal and related pills. Concerta, vyvannse...the names escape me. I wasnt above that shit, but wasnt about to rely upon it, either.

Some knew a townie with a hook up; others went to their doctor and fronted ADHD and maybe got a script. None of them amounted to shit. Assuming the stimulants were an edge, which allowed them to focus longer and push harder, it wasn't enough. And a few of them just fell in love with the buzz and didn't give a shit about their studies. Those were the ones I respected.

Don't get me wrong, I use and endorse drugs. All drugs. It's just that they're not properly applied to ambition and academic excellence. If you're reaching for them, either you've already fucked up, or are enlightened enough to just load up without justification.

Just fail and get high, ya'll.

I have had pretty good luck with modafinil. It's a lot less overwhelming and euphoric than adderall, which started becoming habit-forming and began interfering with my sleep cycle. It's generally imported from India (with a major markup) so expect to pay unless you have a friend who is visiting the area.

My friend also swears by L-Tyrosine, which is a precursor to some neurotransmitters.

I don't understand the notion that it's somehow cheating or unfair. Studying for a test is not a competitive endeavour. There's a good reason to ban adderall from, say, pro gaming events, but why would you deny yourself an edge in a test that could possibly determine your whole future?

I took Effexor and had an easier time studying, it's just an antidepressant with a slight amphetamine kick. It made up for the cloudy and depressant anti-epileptic drugs that I have to take. Like all uppers though, the honeymoon phase ended and it just wasn't worth the withdrawals from forgotten doses so I tapered off.

I have a friend who studies at MIT. He's working on a Physics degree, and he occasionally takes Adderal as a concentration aid. His opinion is that it has a legitimately useful effect, but only if the side-effects are also taken into account. A dose will grant him enhanced performance for a duration, but will then negatively impact that performance the day afterwards. So long as he monitors his intake and only uses the drug at appropriate times, he experiences a net gain in terms of performance. However, at the same time, he knows people who consider Adderal a miracle drug and will do absolutely crazy things to try getting their hands on it. Around exam times there are people who will pay upwards of 300$ per pill for it, especially if they know their results aren't going to be up to scratch.

Basically what I've gotten from all this is that all too often, students use drugs as a crutch to compensate for bad performance, laziness or simple incompetence. They don't have the drive or capacity to study the hard way, so they look for quick-fixes and shortcuts. But if you have the right mentality, chemical stimulates do have a place in academia - a limited place that needs more investigation and regulation.

It is exceptional. These drugs do nothing for someone without a problem except make them unable to sleep.

So so wrong. Stimulants are commonly used to enhance focus, motivation, and attention.

Ritalin is the big one I think. I just stick with good old fashioned caffeine though. Most potent of drugs that Mormons banned it.

Ritalin is a pretty shitty one, if you are looking for the S tier you want dexamphetamine.

So is caffeine considered a study drug?

No. It is a stimulant, albeit shitty, but also so commonly used that most people would never in their lives even call it a drug.

I used some in college to varying degrees of efficacy. I think they are okay, don't really seem to be all that dangerous. There are way worse things people do to get an edge

They can definitely be dangerous. In general you are talking about amphetamines, and I have never heard anyone say "don't really seem to be all that dangerous" about amphetamine before.

I used caffeine tabs and chewing tobacco to stay up later and study more through lawschool, but I can't imagine doing amphetamines to "get an edge" they're bad about state dependent recall and have too many side effects. I don't even like the feeling of being over-caffeinated, I can't imagine how awful speed might feel.
Caffeine has the shittiest feelings of all stimulants pretty much, many people don't even experience a boost in mood, energy nor focus from it, but only become more jittery and anxious. You would 99% like most other stimulants, not that I recommend you to try them.

I always found it hilarious that ADD people actually really hate the stimulant drugs they're prescribed. If you are ADD you do not enjoy Ritalin.

Then they're amazed that when you prescribe some drug to the very class of people who don't like that particular drug, they then sell it to everyone else, since almost anyone without ADD loves speed.

1. Get ADD diagnosis
2. Get some amphetamine based prescription
3. Don't take it
4. Sell it
5. Buy weed
6. ???
7. PROFIT

I don't see the problem with it. You're being efficient. If you can understand the material, then you had it in yourself in the first place. Just becasue a retarded person took a study drug doesn't mean they will understand or retain the material....

With amphetamines, you can't really predict what you'll focus on. You might just focus on one chapter or one page and not get anything done. It might up your anxiety massively, actively hindering you. 'Cognitive Boosters' are dubious. Most of the time its placebo.

If you're looking to pull all nighters, your best bet is nuvigil or drugs for shift-wake disorder which will keep you cognitively up to par while tired. It won't enhance it, more keep it stable while you're exhausted.

IMO, I've done the meth angle, it doesn't really work, made me more anxious. What really helps is learning how you learn. What works best for you. Re-writing, oral, verbal, images. That will basically up your grades massively, more than any cognitive assistance.

Mostly these drugs are the crutch of the desperate. If you learn the best way to study for yourself, it'll be way easier and cheaper. Even if you are pushed for time, the study method you develop that's best for yourself will always give you a higher grade than pills.

They're finding that these new drugs like modafinal are just dopamine agonists same as speed

I know a lot of people that take Adderall, but it is hard to come by here in Europe. Some people do Cocaine instead to bash out a project just before the deadline, but it is too expensive.
I sometimes do a bit of Ketamine, it's dirt cheap and when it wears out the alcohol like effect you're just left with energy. There's a reason it's big in the rave scene.

Never use drug to enhance performance or treat illness. Only use drug for fun.
