A majority of UK students think there should be a compulsory test on understanding sexual consent at the start of university, a survey suggests.

The Higher Education Policy Institute's survey found 58% of students backed the idea of having to pass a test to show they "fully understand" consent.

Universities have faced warnings about sexual harassment on campus.

The Everyone's Invited website has published anonymous accounts of students facing abuse and sex assaults.

The think tank's survey of 1,000 students found only a quarter felt they had been adequately prepared by sex education in school to have a "comprehensive understanding of sexual consent".

There were particular concerns about understanding consent when alcohol and drugs were involved.

The report examined students' experience of sex and relationships - and said the findings challenged some of the stereotypes about student life, which was "less hedonistic than is sometimes supposed".

The survey of undergraduates, carried out in August 2020, suggested 43% had not had sex before going to university - and 25% had never "intimately kissed" anyone.

Among male students, the survey claimed 66% had not had sex during their time as a student - and 53% of female students had not had sex during their university years.

Among all students, 11% were "voluntarily abstaining from sex" and two-thirds were not currently in a relationship.

Friendships seemed to be more important, with 58% of students saying it was more important to make friends rather than to "find people to have sex with" when first going to university.

About a third of students had never been in any "intimate relationship", whether sexual or non-sexual, or "kissed someone on a night out" in their university years.

Almost a third said they currently watched pornography - but this was twice as likely among men than women.

The report said it aimed to provide more reliable evidence about students' sex lives where claims were often "more salacious than illuminating".

It showed that a "caricature" of irresponsible students had to be "redrawn".

Nick Hillman, the institute's director, said the findings could "help students navigate what is a key transition point in their lives".

"By telling students about the experiences of their peers, we hope the results will make it easier for them to make informed decisions about their own lives."

Let's say for the sake of argument that students don't go to college to learn. They go to university to fuck and find a mate. (sounds like a sexist stereotype but whatever).

Even in such an environment where it makes sense to make the world revolve around fucking, this test makes no sense. You should enter higher education already understanding consent. It should be a prerequisite to even get accepted.

Doing this as part of the university curriculum itself suggests that drop outs and students who only complete compulsory education don't understand consent and are exceptionally rapey. Hey universities, you're getting dangerously close to 13/50 there. Slow it down.

College is a complex one, I'm assuming you're talking about the States here, and campus seems to have its own law.

You mention that the guys had been accused of rape during the relationship.

Another anecdote. Bloke I knew via a community hub service I volunteered for, his ex made a false rape accusation against me. Lss they had split up, he went round hers, they got drunk and had sex. From what he told me, she thought they were back together, he disabused her of that notion.

He admitted to me that the relationship was a codependent nightmare and shouldn't have gone back. He had to do a bunk from the count y. And a lot of it was down to the ex fucking up her uni course.

I've had the police on the phone telling me about what one particular ex was saying. They knew she was lying. And that's why I believe majority of rape allegations are made up (not including Rochdale type cases). Luckily, I had been to the police previously to make a complaint about her, because the social services (staffed overwhelmingly by leftie women) will always believe the woman (unless the complaints are against someone like Alex Salmond).

They desperately need to update the backwards rape laws which means only men are capable of committing rape and start having consequences for these women. They want all the legal benefits and none of the responsibility.

about 5 years ago, the Manchester Police admitted they don't push for prosecutions for false rape claims. They of course had to add that it doesn't happen THAT MUCH, which means 'the blatantly obvious ones'' are quite rare, but hey, even then nothing will happen.

also consider that usually rape stats are taken from 'reported ' rapes. This could mean that they've got those numbers from shelters. I've said before that leftie women over represent in social services and the like.

However, my experience with people coming out of prison/psych wards, women would always say they were victims of DA, but the expartner was never charged or convicted of anything.... and the women 9/10 times were banned from seeing their kids, due to violence.

I'm going to play Devil's Advocate just this once. The most effective anti-rape ad / messaging I ever saw was on UK TV, just twenty seconds, and it had a boy and a girl alone in some room at a house party and the boy was trying to have sex with the girl who plainly was uncomfortable. The same boy was also on the other side of this glass wall banging on it trying to get his other self's attention shouting "she doesn't want to".

This may sound weird but as opposed to the usual "evil rape" messaging this one actually depicted accurately how a lot of rape happens - the guy isn't evil, maybe not even selfish. He just genuinely doesn't understand the girl's signals or that he is far physically stronger than her or have the developed level of empathy to understand that just because he is really enjoying something and turned on she may not be.
