It's the perfect mix of taboo sexuality, strangeness, and crazy that generates the attention grabbing. It's just annoying that shit like this ends up affecting innocent people. I've talked to quite a few trans people over the years, and the overwhelming reason for not pursuing transition is "I don't want to end up like those crazies on Springer/livejournal/tumblr". Imagine if someone with cancer said that, it'd be fucking heartbreaking. "I don't want to get chemo because then people will think I'm one of those crazy cancer patients."

Dysphoria kills people. Not our little princess Kayla, but actual real people who can't take the suffering any longer, but see no way to escape it. And every time some BS kid like this has a spasm, the difficulty to get treatment nudges just that little bit harder.
