Vecna is basically a lamer version of Sylar from Heroes. Which is a shame because I truly think Jamie Campbell Bower has enough charisma to pull off psychopath with a God complex but they should've kept him as a separate villain from the Upside Down. Since he was introduced in season 4 when they were doing the whole "Hopper in USSR" thing, they could've tied the plots together much better and had Henry's character be the Soviet version of Eleven who was trained by the KGB equivalent of the CIA's psychic program to guide their researchers in the Upside Down. Except since he's older, he'd logically be more powerful and experienced than Eleven so as a bonus you'd have a psychic rival for Eleven that she couldn't simply overpower by concentrating really hard in addition to the Mind Flayer.
it wasn't because of that but it was a massive homage to 1980s movies but with "subverting your expectation" twists, like the jerk boyfriend learning his ways or the sheriff actually believing the hysterical mother. it also supposedly nailed how kids and teens actually acted. All the high schoolers were drinking at the parties and the main boys were called faggots, it was considered fresh and authentic compared to the sanitized depictions of teens at the time. it was 2016 remember? it makes sense, them taking years and hyping up how every episode would be 2 hours long only for it to basically feel like a regular season length. i swear the actors said "each episode feels like an entire movie" and i guess turning the season into a fag love story only to change it last minute makes the most sense. nothing we've seen so far makes sense for this season to have a budget of almost a billion dollars.
