Tbh I think this show was only good in S1, and after S3 I just gave up on it. Not gonna watch S4 and after reading the Wiki on Vecna I think I made the right choice.

Just one question:

How does just wandering around in some dusty wasteland for like a year while having psychic powers allow one to change their physical form to what he looks like now?
His powers seem pretty asspully and stupid in general so I don't even want to think about how any thing about him makes sense, but his monsterish appearance intrigues me.

Looks like Stranger Things decided to left its tombstone to get an animated series adaptation.

The Stranger Things universe is expanding with an animated spinoff series ahead of the flagship's final season.

The untitled animated series will be set in the Stranger Things world and will be developed by the Duffer Brothers, Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen and Eric Robles, it was announced Monday.

According to the Duffer Brothers, the new series was inspired by childhood cartoons they watched as kids.

“We’ve always dreamed of an animated Stranger Things in the vein of the Saturday morning cartoons that we grew up loving, and to see this dream realized has been absolutely thrilling," the Duffer Brothers said in a statement. "We couldn’t be more blown away by what Eric Robles and his team have come up with -- the scripts and artwork are incredible, and we can’t wait to share more with you! The adventure continues…”

Gotta milk that cash-cow for all it's worth!

I don't believe for a second that they actually thought of doing an animated series based on Stranger Things. That's like George Lucas had always planned on Boba Fett's father being the genetic template for the clone troopers. No one buys that, you just made him the template for the clone wars because you knew Boba Fett was a dark horse fan favorite.

It's very obvious they had a story to tell with the first season and they told it. They did a decent job of turning a fairly-wrapped up story into something workable with season 2. 3 was mostly shit, and 4 had a lot of high points, but also a shitload of lows and a bunch of characters standing around doing fuck all. This show has effectively turned into the Fast and Furious franchise where it's just a thinly-veiled excuse for a bunch of TV show people to make a steady paycheck, except instead of marketing to Hispanics it's a bunch of 80s marks.

Wonder if they'll try to make that group of runaway psychic experiments from S2 a thing again for the cartoon. The fact that they were never referenced in the show again makes me think they realized nobody liked them... but who knows.
I forgot they existed until you mentioned them just now. Proves your point.

They even kind of retconned the whole idea. I remember they wanted to make it seem like all the psychics had their own special powers like X-men, but with season 4 they kind of just said "fuck it, they can all do the same things now."

Those guys broke the immersion. They didn't seem like something from the 80s. It was like they belonged in some other show. I'm glad they never came back.

They were intended to be the focus of a spinoff, IIRC. Everyone hated the episode, and they gave up on the idea.

They're making a fucking cartoon? Jesus Christ. I guess that makes sense, though. The "kids" are all old enough to start their own families, so they had to keep them the "right age" someone. They can't puberty block them all.

He already had the psychic powers. He was the prototype of Eleven in a sense, but he was a psychopath, so they "decommissioned" him. The physical transformation was a combination of Eleven blowing him the fuck out with her powers and sending him through an impromptu portal (took a lot of energy), and also him being stuck in The Upside-Down for however long he was there. (Why assume time passes the same way there?)

They might do a Pikachu surprised face when they learn the "kids" care more about which 1980s songs they'll use instead of plotlines.

Nothing about Vecna makes any sense. I'm still confused as to how Eleven managed to scream his ass into another fucking dimension that she didn't even know existed.

With season 4, only way to "enjoy" it is to just turn off your brain and occasionally laugh at the stupid shit. It's even worse than season 2 and at least that one wasn't comprised of 9 episodes several of which are around two fucking hours long.

Keeping with the aforementioned DnD parallels, it could be argued that she was using an innate form of the Banishment spell...

Eh, no. D&D parallels were only meant to be a fun way for the kids to try and explain what they were witnessing through their favorite board game. Once your show's internal logic loops around to "it works because it's vaguely supposed to represent this thing from D&D, also fuck you" then it has officially jumped the shark.

Just turn off you Brian when watching it. I do

My Dad was sperging out over them defeating Vecna without the power of prayer, because Vecna, a clear scientific abomination in an alien dimension, somehow has to do with real world demonic activity. I myself am a Catholic with some paranoid beliefs and yet even I can see how retarded he kind of sounds here especially given how he is a huge fan of Star Wars and also likes Game of Thrones and Metallica.

Season 5
First 4 episodes November 26, 2025
Next 3 episodes Christmas 2025
Final episode December 31 2025

With Netflix breaking seasons up like this, it won't surprise me if for future popular shows they show just minutes at a time instead of full episodes.
I miss linear progression. Just feels weird getting it in chunks like this when waiting a week for a new episode was normal.
