The Finale broke my brain into many pieces.

My heart broke in half when Nancy didn’t escape the Upside Down. I don’t know how I didn’t connect the dots, how Vecna used grief, guilt and despair to curse his victims, and how that easily applies to what happened to Barb. I even heard that ominous “DONG” sound twice in the episode but I just felt I had to be imagining it, with all the shit police action happening.

Frankly, I got a little spoiled. At first, I thought Vecna was just gonna be Victor Creel, but that theory got wiped quick. But after episode six, I fucked up and discovered Vecna was “One”, as well as Creel’s Son. But not that he was the “Orderly”, his most important identity. Because that guy scared me from the get go and I knew something wasn’t right with him.

At least Volume 2 is just two episodes and it’ll be easy for me to binge No Spoilers.

I had to definitely finish for the weekend because the Spoilers are getting fierce out there.

I can understand that. I went through that as an 80's kid watching movies about the 50's like Back To The Future.

I'm a 90s kid - Barely, I was born in the '91 to '93 range that is considered the 'last of the 90s kids' - and I've literally never felt any Nostalgia for the 90s, since all my favorite shit came from either the 80s or the '00s. What was there to like? I literally can't think of anything other than Stargate SG-1, and that went well into the mid '00s. Degrassi: The Next Generation? That was in the (early) '00s. Wishbone, Mighty Morphn' Power Rangers, Elder Scrolls: Redguard and Fallout 1 &2, I guess, and a couple older anime that came OUT in the 90s but were never released in the US till the '00s.

Anyhow, I digress. I never felt Nostalgia for my 'childhood years' because I was either too young for them (90s) or they were an absolute shitheap of social issues that got worse and worse ('00s).

The 50s and 80s, though? Fuck yeah, I lost myself in my grandfather's stories about his teenage years as a greaser in the 50s, and my dad's stories about the '80s.

So that, in all honestly, is a reason why I love this series - I lose myself in the anemoia for the '80s, and I know I can't be alone in this.

Because it's a wholesome show about children which portrays a world that's worth protecting. It could've been set in the 60s or in the 1840s. The 80s have an optimal tech level and fewer wokeshit issues.
 
I just realized that Stranger Things' main villain is fucking Voldemort. No, seriously, Vecna is a discount Voldemort. Fucking hell.

They better pull out some Sauron-tier badass for Season 5 because if Vecna ends up being the final boss, fuck this stupid show.

Also, this season amplifies a problem that this show has had since season 2 which is that there is like 3 different story-lines going on simultaneously that have barely anything to do with one another. The Russia shit especially feels like it was originally a way bigger part of the main plot that got rewritten to make way for stupid crap like Eleven getting bullied by the most stereotypical Stacy I've seen on TV in almost a decade. Or that dumb as fuck episode with Max breaking out of Vecna's hold with LE POWER OF FRIENDSHIP.

Nah, the 80s were legitimately shit and gay. Everything crap about the 90s goes double for the fucking 80s. And the 90s had a lot of good stuff, great TV, great music, the video game revolution that followed the collapse of the industry, everyone high on the post-Soviet-collapse optimism.
 
Started S4 and can't power thru the first few episodes. I can't get over some of the plot things like why does it seem that US govt was not in any way interested in investigating what happened in that mall? the whole soviet invasion +otherworldy aliens issue, you'd think they would hold on to people who were involved in it and not just ignore the whole happening? Why d the soviets immediately go with the torture and wanting to know about Joyce? Wouldnt' they be more interested in what USA knows about the other dimension? and treat him better, possibly swap for some agents? what's the point of sedning him to gulag? HOW THE FUCK do they make El go from "fighting monsters from hell" to "crying because someone said something mean to her" in a matter of weeks? And why is El lying about to Mike that the mean girls are her friends? why not literally any other girls? . And I swear if the lesbian gf subplot turns out to be of no significance to the story other than having muh oppressed lesbo woes, then I am done with the series.

I think "ET" and "Goonies" would come closest in the plot idea and general atmosphere, maybe "Gremlins". "Stand by me" if you exclude the sci-fi part and leave only coming of age+adventure

I just remembered another thing.

On 4chan's /tv/, around 2 years ago when the coof was in full swing, there was a purported "leak" of season 4. The thing that stood out to me the most was that said leak claimed that the main villain of Season 4 was going to be a psychotic youth named Victor who went through the Soviet version of Hawkins' lab experiments and had god-tier psychic powers.

While watching the actual Season 4 this came up in my mind,
especially since Henry Creel's dad is named Victor.
 
So now that I finished Volume 1, I’m watching all the YouTube Analyses.

And of course….

People keep pointing out that dreaded, dreaded, “Product Placement.”

CAN EVERYONE PLEASE STOP WORRYING ABOUT SEEING A CAN OF COKE OR A OLD PRINGLES LOGO ON TV?

Of all media complaints, I just can’t figure out why seeing a simple Golden M Arch or a 7/11 Logo upsets people so much.

It's one of those things midwits can identify and bitch about to convince themselves they're smart and noticing things.
 
Is Season 4 worth watching? Season 3 was such hot garbage it killed my interest entirely:

- "We're Russians! Check out our Soviet outfits! We're hiding undercover, but we must have them on because otherwise you might not know that we're RUSSIAN!!!"
- Russian agent is the freaking Terminator.
- Black sassy shit is some hyper-intelligent closet nerd because whatever.
- Winona Ryder just gets to menopause her way through any problem without issue.
 
The Russian Subplot is annoying and seemingly adding nothing to what’s happening so far.

Erica is basically only in a big role in the first and last episodes. She does wind up in on the Party. But I can’t blame her at this point. At least she was toned a bit down.

In my case, my parents were born in the mid 1940's and had high school lives in the late 50's/early 60's, my dad is a Vietnam vet and married my mom in the early 70's.

No lie that bottom picture is hitting me with some powerful nostalgia. The portrayal of the 80s in most shows goes one of two directions, the first being the extremely glossy and colorful to comedic degrees. The second is that its shitty, miserable, and dreary. When in reality it was a mixture that could vary wildly. Also weird ass yellow, orange, red, and brown shades.

Fairly accurate. Mostly with the clothing choices and interior decoration in the first season. The more OTT hair styles, especially on the men, wasn't really a thing in suburbia. There's certain issues with media saturation where they just grabbed something from the 80's and put it there when normies weren't really aware of it. Such as The Thing poster in the kid's room. NO ONE saw The Thing back in the day. It's a masterpiece but it bombed back then so the only kind of kids who would be aware of it would be hard core horror kids with Fangoria subscriptions where issues of Fangoria came with a poster. TLDR: first season was the most accurate.

Season two and onwards is just endless things from the 80's being thrown in there for memberberries.
