Excellent, a total win for game creators and IP holders, a total loss for that lisping illiterate faggot who started all of this.
This whole thing only exists because people are physically incapable of closing their wallet.seems like you could easily just effect their margins even with modest boycotts if they dont roll out an end of life plan from the getgo
Here's a relevant clip from that video, going over how they're still making progress with the EU Parliament regardless of the commission's decision:On one hand, this sucks and it would've been great if things passed.
On the other, Ross himself stated in his last video that this sounded possible [what with them being asked repeated questions of the 'so do you guys WANT the companies to keep supporting games forever?' kind], so I'm not surprised either. Still, as he points out, things are different now than they were when he started this campaign and it looks like California might get a bill that actually works, and if it does, that can have a domino effect. Plus France, Germany, and Australia are still doing their own internal investigations on The Crew that don't have to do with what just happened, and the EU Commission failing us doesn't stop political approaches.
So yeah, this sucks, but still, you guys are dooming too hard right now. Did none of you watch this?
https://youtube.com/watch?v=CgoODQFrPgwJust saying, I'm not giving up until Ross does.
I am kind of not surprised to be honest, given the sheer amount of Censorship they are enforcing on the Internet liberally. To nobody's suprise, the commission will do nothing
Don't worry, we will import niggers, introduce internet ID and kneecapping AI companies instead. Fuck gamers!Ah yes, self-regulation after a meeting with the industry leaders. The amount of things the EU is good for went from 1 to 0.
Not only this, I think something that's important to mention is that having judgments and laws specifically on the books that show governments setting precedent of companies fucking people is a much worse look than merely having a convenient grey area to exist within where the law is completely nonspecific. Ross himself has said as much - even having a definite "you absolutely do not own the things you buy" is preferable to that sort of ambiguity because it's easier to be outraged about and move against. Here's a relevant clip from that video, going over how they're still making progress with the EU Parliament regardless of the commission's decision:

(This clip is a minute and a half long. Can @Null pay attention that long?)
theyve closed their wallets pretty hard already since the industry is having to downsize, and the rights arent eroded anymore than people already make fan characters and works that rake in money. even people covered on this site have made money with works featuring other people's characters and designs. This whole thing only exists because people are physically incapable of closing their wallet.
In any case this is 100% DOA anywhere it gets pitched. Being able to spin up a discontinued game, use the associated models, and potentially even make money off it would be a massive erosion of ip rights and i dont know how you can realistically sidestep that.
Piracy does not solve this problem since it does nothing to alleviate the problem of games dying because the servers went down. If piracy was the solution there would be no need for SKG in the first place. On the bright side, this means that piracy is absolutely fair game. Raise your sails gentlemen, it's time to torrent a few files.![]()
