Why do lefties get so crazed over Libertarians? I knew a self-proclaimed Marxist (she lived with her parents in their giant house and gated community) that would have a physical reaction every time she said the word. The fuck did the "leave me alone" crowd do to these people?

I think lefties don't feel philosophically threatened by mainstream conservatism because they don't see it as a coherent ideology. From their POV, it's just normies having "false consciousness" and "insufficient awareness", being "selfish" / "racist" / "ignorant" / "stuck in religion and tradition" / etc.

Libertarianism, OTOH, is very explicitly an ideology with clearly spelled-out axioms, whose adherents love to justify it using the same kind of philosophical and moralizing language that the left believes they own. In other words, Libertarianism (whatever its faults) engages leftist theories like communism on the theory level, and explains where they are fallacious in a language that lefties understand (e.g. communism ignoring the power of incentives). Except they don't want to understand that, so they react with anger.
