You know I've been watching a lot of critical reviews of the show recently and one thing I find funny is that the only thing the fanbase can really agree on is that the repeated hiatuses are god-awful.
And it got me to thinking.... What would have happened to Rebecca Sugar in the cartoon industry of the 90s or early 2000s? I mean, John K. was fired from Nickelodeon for failure to make deadlines on individual episodes by mere weeks, whereas somehow Sugar is allowed to put the entire show on hiatus for months at a time with no repercussion to her career.

Something tells me that if she got her start in the 90s she'd be an SJW version of John K. right now as she would have been fired and replaced within the first season. So why the fuck do they tolerate this shit today?

Why the fuck would they do that, tho? It would literally serve no purpose other than declining ratings, decreased viewer investment and retention, and damaging the overall marketability of the IP. Or did they just want to kill off the show and couldn't find another way to do it?
Because Sugar being that incompetent is understandable, the entirety of CN being that incompetent isn't

CN does almost nothing but air marathons of TTG and Gumball almost every day. The head of the network just recently stepped down. I get the feeling it’s a bit of a mess over there.

There is a rumor that, although Steven Universe is liked by adults, it isn't popular with the channel's target demographic: kids and preteens whereas Teen Titans Go and Gumball are. The rumor also says that SU tanks in rating when it's shown in reruns and the only way it gets good numbers is by creating artificial scarcity with steven bombs.

Let's face it, adults pirate it, kids are the only ones that stay around to watch episodes on Cartoon Network whenever they air.

I can't tell if it's true, but it would explain a lot.

I’ve been thinking. Maybe it’s less that Rose was always a terrible person and more that she was a terrible person, but was actively trying to make things better after the Corruption, even if she was kinda crap at it. It’s just we’re told her story in reverse rather than from her beginning. So we see her as becoming worse rather than trying to be better.
The show really piles on the awfulness though. A few moments of “hey, she was a bad person, but she was attempting to be better” would be nice though. At this rate I wouldn’t be surprised if it turns out Rose is somehow the final villain.

It'd actually make a surprising amount of sense. I mean, when Pink Diamond started her "revolution" she did it in one of the worst ways possible, by controlling both her own "loyalist" forces against her own "rebel" forces. That literally didn't need to happen. Pink Diamond, being the leader of Earth's colony, had the full loyalty of her Gems. She could literally just have said "Fuck those homeworld fascists! We're staying here and finding a better way." and the vast majority of her forces (being brainwashed to think of their Diamond as infallible) would have fallen in lockstep.
What did she do instead? Kicked off an artificial civil war that resulted in the deaths of thousands, possibly millions, of her own people and likely the human residents of Earth as well. What the fuck was the point of that? Why not just declare, as Pink Diamond, the succession of the Earth Colony, then "leave" to "prevent homeworld from coming back to Earth" when in reality you just launch an empty spaceship in a random direction on autopilot and leave your "second in command" Rose Quartz in charge?

The whole rebellion seemed like it was custom tailored to kill as many Gems as possible for basically nothing. It could either be bad writing or brilliant foreshadowing.
 
The problem with Steven Universe is how unfocused its characters and their character arks are either rush or unearned.
Characters never seem to develop naturally so as a result, they end up becoming worse as people rather than better.
Rose is the perfect example of this because she's so frustrating to watch, her character is so inconsistent that you have no idea what's she's about and the show many excuses at first that she result of abuses family but what she did was so horrible that nobody could get behind her character, so they gave up went "yeah she was always evil" but then again the show will make up some half-ass redemption ark for her because that what's Steven Universe does with all of its characters.
 
The only way I think they could save(as in redeem and say she was a hero) Rose's character is by saying that all of those horrible things she did were due to being isolated and spoiled caused her to be spoiled and her time on earth forced her to mature and have empathy to the feelings of others.

To clarify I'm saying that the writers could try to pull a white diamond fast redemption on her by saying she improved and toned down the selfishness due to her time with Greg.

I'm not saying she was good or empathic at the end, which is a can of worms I won't open.

I mean the show has forgiven literal genocidal dictators in the span of minutes. I don't think it's that far off for SU to do it.

What I think is rather creepy is Pearl's relationship with Rose.

Back when it was just Rose, it was a plausible idea, sad but understandable, but after the twist it just came off as something perverted. Pearl was literally her slave and did all of the Rebellion just because her master told her, and she had this lust for her Master even when she saw her at her most apathetic and spoiled. Pink literally took advantage of Pearl to use in her rebellion and never considered her feelings on the matter. And to this day the show still claims how pearl x Rose is a "great love story uwu" and Pearl is still defending every shitty thing Rose did.

I dunno...Is this what the gays want from their Representation? Some creepy power dynamics with a spoiled brat manipulating someone with less power? Is that love?
 
Honestly, it sucks Rose is gone... not because I'm saying she should be back for a cheesy happy ending, but rather because I would love to see her having to confront all the characters angry with her like Spinel, and deal with the consequences of her actions.

Steven kinda has a point that even if it wasn't her intent, she did escape all the backlash by becoming half of Steven.

IMHO in the end, Greg and Steven were much better people than she ever was. I commend, that for a woke show, they did have flawed 3 dimensional women and good natured men. And everything in between.

Definitely confirms that the person singing the “Love Like You” song that used to play at the end of the show was Rose singing about Steven.
 
I watched the episodes earlier.

In the episode "Guidance", I'm choosing to interpret the Gems' professions akin to gender/sexuality, and Steven being frustrated with them taking jobs similar to their old roles akin to a Tumblrite who has managed to break down the barriers preventing people from expressing their true selves, and gets really annoyed that they choose lives similar to their old selves rather than being genderfluid pansexuals like he thinks they should be.
