I literally have never ever gone to one of my own volition. The only time I have gone is because an older guy I know organized a dinner or vetoed everyone’s other selections because “it’s the best steakhouse in the city”. Always a boomer who cannot cook. I mean chains and expensive ones, but not expensive where it actually feels like I want to kill myself for buying some chick some steak and wine for $350 minimum.

The food for the price is robbery. It is not well done. It’s very much a faggot move to say “I could make this at home”, but every fucking thing is something you can make without difficulty. The sides, appetizers, and sauces are not hard to make. The quality is also shit.

It just seems like a holdover for boomers. It’s like that tier of food below country club or Sunday buffet food. Nothing is done well enough. It’s exceptionally mediocre. Sunday buffets at least has a carving station and Yorkshire pudding.

I am not taking about Italian, Japanese, Brazilian, American, or like actual restaurants. It’s a very autistic thing, but it’s like all boomers whenever I go. The menu is stuck in the 80’s and not even the good shit from the 80’s. The ambiance and decor too. They always feel dirty. Like the owners can’t afford to get better chairs, too.

Generally I would agree with a few exceptions. There are some truly classic examples like Ruth's Chris which is expensive for a reason.

In a more general sense I think the only good common steak house chain is Longhorn. I've never been outright disappointed by the food at a Longhorn except for when I tried the pork chops, and while they don't necessarily do anything you can't replicate at home they do it to a satisfactory degree. I like the way they pepper their steaks and I don't consider their prices to be unreasonable.

Other chains like Outback or Texas Road House are trash.

If you think boomers are bad, wait til you find out about millennials and zoomers.

I was out of college before I learned to sear a steak, and I think many people never get past their fear of burning it, so grilling at home means cooking it like a burger, with no crispy outside, and maybe a bit of pink amidst the grey. A medium rare steak from a chain steakhouse, or even Applebee's or Chili's, is a pretty solid upgrade.

Even for those who can use a cast iron pan, how many can really rival a high-end steak house? I can make a decent steak, but the good restaurants are using better cuts and better equipment, hundreds of times a day, which is hard for a home gamer to match.

WELL DONE DOES NOT MEAN BURNT OR BONE DRY
I think at any chain or non-high-end place, it's good practice to order a step rarer than you really want.

I don't give a shit about steak (unless you're talking steak patty like a buffet), but some of the low-end ones have legit soup/salad bars. K-Bobs was solid.

WELL DONE DOES NOT MEAN BURNT
If you order anything above medium rare you get what you deserve.

If you can't trust the restaurant to make a medium rare steak then either don't go there or order something else.

I don't go to Steakhouses because I've never been to a steakhouse that didn't fuck up my steak.
I don't know if any of you need to read this, but I want to tell everyone who will listen:
WELL DONE DOES NOT MEAN BURNT OR BONE DRY. IF YOU CANNOT COOK A WELL DONE STEAK WITHOUT FUCKING IT UP DO NOT TRY.
It took me some time to figure out what you meant here (I had half written a reply before I got it). Originally I thought the issue was you were asking for well done then getting a well done steak and complaining the steak you got wasn't cooked how you wanted. As if there was some kind of sitcom mis-understanding where you thought "well done" meant "cooked properly" while wanting a medium-rare steak but instead were getting a well done steak and complaining.

But apparently the problem here is that you're asking for shoe leather and getting shoe leather. I suggest not asking for shoe leather if you ever find yourself in a steakhouse again.

Well done does not mean "shoe leather"
It's not my fault you don't know how to cook nor grill.

I don't eat steak very often but when I do it is damn well at home. For the price of driving well out of my way and getting a mid cut with basic bitch sides at a steak house I can hit up my local butcher and get a beautiful ribeye from a locally raised animal that needs nothing but salt to taste amazing.

You don't need any fancy pants equipment either, my twenty dollar lodge carbon steel pan cooks a mean steak. Bake a potato and roast some asparagus and forget that steak houses even exist.

My parents taught me how to cook a steak medium rare on a grill before I was even out of high school. It's not hard. This is saddening to hear.

I've been to a couple of high end unique steak houses that were very good. Excellent stuff, thoroughly enjoyed what I've gotten. Just as many were overpriced and overrated but I feel like they're surfing off that expectation.

For me the most boomery choice for a restaurant is an Italian place that's largely just very simple Italian-American staples. They act like getting some decent extra virgin olive oil, salt, and pepper with bread followed by some 6/10 spaghetti is worth a fat bill. I've met many boomers who will always opt for Italian to an obsessive degree. I've always assumed its a safe and familiar choice, so they gravitate towards it.

"Am I out of touch? No, it's every internet poster and steak house I've been to who are wrong."
That is correct
Yes it does.

Again, because YOU don't know how to do it well done doesn't mean others don't. There's a line between well done and burnt. Most can't toe it without fucking it up because they've been told "Well done = burnt" because apparently putting a little char on meat is too complicated and difficult for some reason.

I agree. Most every Italian-American dish can be made from pantry staples, and the cost per serving would be 5 times less than if you went to some dingy restaurant. Would taste 5 times better too
