🐱 Starbucks franchises homeless shelters

Starbucks stores are now open to all — no purchase necessary.
The company informed US employees on Friday that people can gather in their cafes and patios even if they don't buy drinks, and that store bathrooms are available to everyone.

"Any person who enters our spaces, including patios, cafes and restrooms, regardless of whether they make a purchase, is considered a customer," Starbucks said in an email to employees.

The policy change follows an uproar over the way two black men were treated at a Starbucks in Philadelphia last month.

One of the men asked to use the bathroom, but an employee told him it was only for paying customers. When the pair then sat in the store without ordering anything, the manager called police, and the men were arrested for trespassing. No charges were filed.

Starbucks later apologized to the men and said it will close 8,000 US stores on May 29 for racial bias training.

The revised Starbucks policy suggests a code of conduct for store visitors, who should use the spaces as intended, be considerate of others and act responsibly.

It also directs employees to a procedure for dealing with customers that behave in a "disruptive manner," including guidance on how to approach disruptive customers. Employees who witness a situation that "presents an immediate danger or threat to partner or customer safety" are still instructed to call 911.

Earlier this month, Starbucks Chairman Howard Schultz, speaking at the Atlantic Council in Washington, teased the policy change.

He said the company used to have a "loose" policy of only allowing paying customers to use the bathroom, with the decision ultimately left to the store manager, but that stores would change that rule.

"We don't want to become a public bathroom, but we're going to make the right decision 100% of the time and give people the key, because we don't want anyone at Starbucks to feel as if we are not giving access to you to the bathroom because you are less than. We want you to be more than," Schultz said.

The old policy, and the decision by the Philadelphia store manager last month, were "absolutely wrong in every way," Schultz added

I don't really have anything against Starbucks itself, my hoping for its failure is more because I despise its customer base.

Unfortunately, the employees will suffer instead of the retarded sjw CEO or hipster customer base.

Despite preaching progressivism with every other breath , it's very likely that he'll retire while his employees are left destitute.

How much would you put up with for decent pay, healthcare for part time workers, and college tuition?

Okay let me get this straight, about a decade ago on 4chan when the Battletoads raids were a thing, people would call up and waste employees' time at Gamestop mostly asking for a copy of a game that was years old, or a copy of a new battletoads that didn't exist that was supposedly coming out. The game was to waste as much of the employees' time as possible and get them enraged.

Now Starbucks just imports the time wasters and resource users. Hmm... I think I need some battletoads coffee. It's mean, it's green, and it gives you a lovely sheen. It's like they didn't think their employees didn't have enough harassment and stress to deal with. Is CWC running this company from CWCVille or something?

They need to have to serve the entire community of homelesstoads. But not just over the phone. In person. There need to be hordes of homelesstoads demanding their free coffee.

The only way SJWism is going to really die is for more actual companies to try it and see that it doesn't work/hurts the bottom line, once you start tuning out the aggressive social media whiners threatening to take their (nonexistant) business elsewhere, you'll realize just how powerless they really are because they do NOTHING for you compared to the 50 people who used to do business with you but went elsewhere where the was less dangerhair and fewer junkies in the restroom.

I support this wholeheartedly because the retraction when lawsuits from customers injured by crazy homeless cases biting them/throwing poo at them is only a matter of time now.

We don't want to become a public bathroom
Oh, you've just become way more than that. You're now a public bathroom, shower, motel, shelter during inclement weather, panhandling hub, and drug deal spot. Just ask public libraries and 24-hour donut shops how much of a good idea this is. I'm sure when they finish laughing they'll tell you it's fine.

It'll be funny to see all the trendy wealthy hipsters that demanded this avoiding the stores.
I was just talking about this yesterday morning. Basically Starbucks is like the insecure friend who just wants the cool kids to like them and the SJW hipsters are the 'cool' friends trying to convince the insecure friend to do some stupid shit. The insecure friend of course does the stupid shit and when it all goes wrong, the 'cool' friends walk away and act like they had nothing to do with it. That's what's about to happen here. I'm actually surprised that upper management at a company as large and successful as Starbucks can't see it coming.

Come for the coffee, stay for the corpses

We are committed to creating a culture of warmth and belonging where everyone is welcome"

When you are a COFFEE COMPANY and your mission statement goes that long without once mentioning "coffee", good times are NOT ahead.

Meanwhile, McDonald's continues to serve the inner city community and wages perpetual jihad against vagrancy, loitering and general monkey shines in its stores. They throw white retirees out after 30 minutes even if they had bought a small coffee. We shall not speak of what happens to black people who mess around in McDonald's and not pay. There was this one guy named Kunta Kinte who walked into a McDonald's, didn't buy anything and tried to use the bathroom. He walked out of that store thinking his name was Toby and singing folk songs.

What? McDonalds is the best place to use the bathroom when you're on the road. They usually have the cleanest bathrooms (unlike gas stations) and they're everywhere, and they never care if you don't buy anything. Are only rural McDonalds that friendly?

I can't wait to see Starbucks get slammed in the media for calling 911 on drunk people or druggies shooting up.

I dislike Starbucks as a company because they endlessly pander to hipsters and progressives but honestly, I wouldn't patronize them simply because I have a coffeemaker at home, and I don't mind cold black coffee. I'd be more surprised that their absurd prices hadn't run them out of business already but again I know who they pander, or I should say pandered to, considering that this policy is going to quickly dry up any business they had in most population centers.

It depends, honestly. It might be that the company is just toeing the line that they perceive as the zeitgeist of the majority of the populace and you'd be spot on with your analysis, but considering that progressivism at this point is practically an atheistic religion it might be that people at the top of some of these companies are under it's yoke. It doesn't sound too far fetched when you consider how many famous folks are scientologists, and progressives will deny reality at the sake of everything else if it means still believing in and trying as hard as they can to make their ideology work. In the case of Starbucks I think you and:

Companies like Starbucks have an ancient, decaying PR department that has no concept of the vocal minority that's been so enabled by the popularity of the internet. They only see "bad reviews, do what they say to make them stop." It's the current iteration of "adapt or die."

are correct. It seems to me that every time that one of their PR moves blows back into their face they whip around to try to please the other side of the aisle. Like when they did the 10,000 refugees and 10,000 veterans hiring campaigns, one before the other. Then again for all we know their upper management could just be a whole gang of chimps pounding away randomly on yerkish keyboards to decide policy direction.

Rural anything's are always more friendly then inner city. Close proximity to large groups of people leads to less tolerance of people.

Every McDonalds that is located in a downtown business district I've ever seen has rigidly enforced that 30 minute rule. If they didn't, they'd be overrun with homeless people buying a $1 sandwich or coffee and then sitting there all day. And then normal people wouldn't want to go there because it was infested with the always smelly and usually dangerous homeless. Thus, the franchise would go under in a hurry. To avoid that, they'll kick you out after 30 minutes, no matter who you are.

I know it's off topic but isn't Battletoads basically unwinnable in the PAL version because one or two of the levels where you are being chased or have to climb the snake have the timing fucked up between the player and the actual game because of the region running their TV's at 50hz?

Yea, but it only affects 2P mode, single player works as intended.

On the same topic, know what else is unwinnable by inherent design glitch?

Being woke enough for Seattle.

We want you to be more than," Schultz said.
But Howard, the stone cold truth of it is that some people are indeed "less than," and deeply entrenched in being "less than" as a way of life.

What you're doing is throwing open the doors to every company-owned Starbucks location and allowing every "less than" lowlife and degenerate to camp out, unchallenged. You're indeed making them "more than"--"more than" the safety and comfort of your employees, and the paying customers who have helped make Starbucks successful. And that should be unacceptable to you, and your board of directors, and your shareholders--because the inevitable result will be unacceptable to your best employees, and ultimately your paying customers.

Yeah, I know; you're still full of Baby Boomer 1960s idealism that if you just love and accept everybody exactly as they are, the world will be a better place. Clearly, you've ignored the vast, accumulated body of evidence to the contrary, and have decided that you can use your business as a platform for your particular vision of society--and that of course your customers will follow along.

But they won't. Not when going for their morning coffee means dodging homeless junkies, tweakers, and mentally ill inside the store as well as out. Not when using the restroom and finding it clean is a literal crapshoot. Not when they won't arrange to meet friends there any more because it's just too fucking unpleasant, and potentially dangerous. They'll discover the limits of their tolerance, and take their business elsewhere, because you have made them "less than."

You "don't wan't to become a public bathroom," but as soon as you allow anybody to use your restrooms and hang out, unchallenged, without paying, that's exactly what every Starbucks store will be.

But it's nice to know I can fill my huge stainless coffee mug with homebrew and go use the free wi-fi to get work done at any Starbucks location whenever I need to get out of the house before I kill all the cats, and not have to buy anything, and never get questioned about it. I'll be sure to take full advantage of that until every Starbucks becomes a day center for the chronically homeless. And I'm going to watch this social experiment of yours unfold into the epic disaster it's doomed to be, with rapt fascination.
