I saw TPM three months after it came out at the dollar theater and Bruce Willis was actually dead the whole time.

I never got the appeal for her. I mean, at most, she's average, the way Disney and Filoni use her. And in terms of goon material, she's not that attractive. Aayla Secura, Shaak Ti, hell, even Luminara Unduli surpass her in goonability.Dave Cultists ramble for hours to hide their real reason: Gooning to Assoka.
Filoni is a hack but Maul coming back is entirely on George Lucas. He thought the "character" (maul had all of two lines in the film) was wasted. IIRC Lucas even wanted Maul to be the villain of his sequel trilogy. If nothing else you can tell it wasn't Filoni because Filoni is incapable of taking that kind of creative risk on his own. When I first saw Phantom Menace on VHS, I was convinced Maul died.
Then Filoni resurrected him into a whiny emo you would find on One Tree Hill.
Asokha being a snarky orange teenager in a crop top was 100% a Lucas call. This is the 'no bras in space' guy, the metal bikini guy, the 'make sure the space cat tears off Natalie Portman's shirt' guy.I never got the appeal for her. Again Lucas was never going to do this. He would pluck out bits and pieces he liked but had absolutely no qualms about completely overriding the stories he took those pieces from. He did this with the films, he did this with the clone wars show, he did this with Force Unleashed and from everything we know about his planned sequels he would have done the same for the post-Return of the Jedi EU as a whole.I wonder what would've happened if LucasFilm (the one before disney stored their souls into an armchair) adapted the Yuushan Vong invasion comics alongside the expanded universe stuff to make up for the sequel trilogy movies instead of whatever the fuck disney pulled out of their ass.
Expanded universe past episode 6 fucking sucks. Especially the Solo kids and all this family stuff. Only good to come after final episode is the empire remnants with Thrawn. Definitely not stupid mc commies fighting tyranidsI wonder what would've happened if LucasFilm (the one before disney stored their souls into an armchair) adapted the Yuushan Vong invasion comics alongside the expanded universe stuff to make up for the sequel trilogy movies instead of whatever the fuck disney pulled out of their ass.
There's more than enough room for Lucas to have his Godfather Maul story without stepping on all the lore from the post ROTJ period. More than likely, it'd be a more local tale of some Jedi Knights from Luke's Order, one of them possibly being related to him, taking on some Mando Mafia outfit led by Maul.Again Lucas was never going to do this. Mostly because all Filoni did with Maul was have him hang around then get killed unceremoniously. Lucas only revived Maul once he started planning for a Sequel Trilogy.Filoni is a hack but Maul coming back is entirely on George Lucas. It is for the worse. At least Lucas being a horny old man gave us more than a few sexy Jedi. Shaak Ti in TFU definitely had his fingerprints all over her design in that game.Asokha being a snarky orange teenager in a crop top was 100% a Lucas call. This is the 'no bras in space' guy, the metal bikini guy, the 'make sure the space cat tears off Natalie Portman's shirt' guy.
This is the guy who ignored 99% of legends only to plop Aayla Secura into his otherwise beige Jedi order and who wanted to make Darth Talon a major player in his sequel trilogy.
Once Lucas goes the latent horniness of star wars goes with him, for better and worse.
Palpy bothered to (try to) kill Maul personally. The thing is Lucas said way back in Ep1 interviews that one of the themes of the PT is Palpy keeps losing apprentices but he's good with it because he simply replaces them with someone better. Maul gets killed, but he's replaced with Tyrannis. Tyrannis is killed, but he's replaced with Vader. Vader gets torched and is replaced with...nobody because Palpy killed off everyone else with any real Force powers when he killed off the Jedi.
Fast forward 20 years and Luke pops out of nowhere and blows up DS1. To Palpy, it was an acceptable loss because it brought Luke to his attention and he knew he could replace Vader with Luke. Vader wanted Luke so he could kill Palpy and make Luke his own apprentice. Treachery is the way of the Sith after all. And both Paly and Vader knew why the other wanted Luke.
But by the time of Jedi, Luke had his own plans and that threw the whole thing out the window.
Having Maul alive at all makes no sense in that project. Aside from the face that the Jedi would not just shrug their shoulders when they figure out the Sith are back and they cold only find half the body, Maul living would mean either Palpy or Palpy's new apprentice will need to remove Maul from the equation, if for no other reason than dead men don't tell. Even if Maul sort of renounces the Sith, which he doesn't, he's still a threat. What's to stop Maul from walking into the Jedi HQ and saying "by the way, Sidious is really the Chancellor"? Nothing. And Palpy has enough resources and smarts to figure out a horned force user with cybernetic legs is now a crime lord to investigate that and kill him.
Bringing Maul back was a mistake regardless of who did it, Lucas, Filoni, Kennedy, the janitor at Lucasfilms, whoever.
"I'm here to kill you, only kidding."
"I'm here to kill you, only kidding."
"I'm here to kill you, only kidding."
That is why I love Palpy."I'm going to kill you. Lol j/k. Unless..."
