Star Wars Battlefront classic collection releases 3/14/24 - New heroes Fist Kiddo and Blue Lady along with 64 player online multiplayer

New Trailer (it say's launch but it's still not out till Thursday)

A thought occurs to me. If they disable voice chat, is there an app or function that allows me to party talk with randoms in game besides just looking up random discords?

Alright so...... They kinda fucked it up. I'm enjoying the clusterfuck and it is playable on PS4 and PS5 But it's not great at launch

People are talking about server issues and glitches. The main issue i experienced was terrible draw distance on battlefront 1. It controls like shit and is very floaty. I think a lot of it is just not aging well but there's also a lot of bad hit detection. Generally a fun clusterfuck but it's not going to last I imagine

2 is much better. Hero assault is glitchy as fuck though and the main problem im experiencing is just how short matches are. It's insane how quick a fight goes, and I'm wondering if this was how it was in the original.

campaign looks, plays and sounds great though.

On ps5 at least I'm experiencing a glitch where it doesn't show servers unless you refresh the browser.

10,000 players on PC, only 3 64 player servers, random disconnections, uninspired main menu screen, no cross play between other platforms.

I can't say I'm surprised given the current state of the gaming industry. It's the only industry I can think of that can get away with releasing incomplete, downright broken products at a premium.

'Probably one of the worst launches of all time': Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection players tear into Aspyr for bugs, crashes, and 3 64-player launch servers for nearly 10,000 users

Aspyr sure is running hot and cold at the moment. Right after last month's well-regarded remasters of the first three Tomb Raider games, the company has put out the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection, an uprezzed repackage of the original, beloved Battlefront games. It came out today and, well, oh dear.

With over a thousand Steam user reviews already in, the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection has spiralled down to a "Mostly Negative" overall rating, as fans complain of bugs, crashes, server issues, and a borderline-unplayable multiplayer mode.

"Probably one of the worst launches of all time," writes Steam user Dinkleberg, "none of us can get in a game and there are only 3 servers." Similar complaints appear endlessly up and down the game's Steam review page, which is currently a sea of red, and many users are imploring each other not to lose their two-hour refund window. "Don't waste your two-hour refund window till confirmation of fix," writes a user named Nightnight, "Currently, game is totally unplayable. Even if you manage to get into a server, players cannot spawn."

The state of the games' servers at launch are a frequent point of complaint. The original Battlefront games were adored for their multiplayer, but numerous players around the internet report that the Classic Collection launched with a sum total of three dedicated servers—64 players each—to serve almost 10,000 concurrent players. Players can host their own servers, which should help, but some users report that feature isn't working properly for them either.

Having checked out the games myself, the situation appears to have been rectified to some extent. Battlefront 2 has significantly more than three dedicated servers while the first game has a total of five. Not many, but adequate to serve the number of players I found in Battlefront 1 when I jumped in earlier today.

But it wasn't just servers that angered players. Multiple gaming subreddits are currently awash in complaints about the collection, particularly the Battlefront subreddit itself. Complaints range from floaty controls, to crashes, to stuttering, to incredibly barebones options for playing with friends. My own experience echoes many of those complaints: Attempting to get into a game of Battlefront 2 left me hanging at character select for a full minute before I gave up and rejoined the server.

But what baffles players most of all—myself included—are the space requirements.

On Steam, the Classic Collection—which hasn't really been marketed as a full-blown remaster—wants an incredible 62.87GB of storage space where the original games only needed 12.39GB combined. Players have been left wondering why they need so much space "just for these two old ass games with barely anything done to them," in the words of Reddit user UnXpectedPrequelMeme, who adds that they "need tons more space to be taken if I do want to mod them… I'm left just wondering why I bought these."

So, maybe hold off on grabbing the Battlefront Classic Collection for now, at least until Aspyr puts out an update about the state of the game going forward. I've reached out to the company to ask about that, and I'll update this piece if I get a response.

Call me when Battlefield 1942/Vietnam/2/2142 are remastered. The concept of remastering games isn't bad, all comes down to how they're executed, I personally loved the C&C Remastered collection for example. Shame this Battlefront remastered collection came out so janky. Seems Aspyr bit off more then they could chew with overextension of projects they were working on.
This feels like the Master Chief Collection situation again except somehow even more retarded. Absolutely staggering incompetence on display.
Are you referring to the 2014 Xbone release or the Steam release in 2019? The latter wasn't bad since I enjoyed how it funneled in people to each games multiplayer released in the 3 month time span.

Seen many dumb cucks saying "nooo buy it later when it's fixed" and are exactly part of the problem
this is why this nonsense is prevalent in modern gaming in the first place, don't fucking buy it at all even if it's fixed because it just tells devs it's fine to release a shitty broken product as long as you fix it later because the niggercattle will forgive all even though you can go play the superior versions for less and aren't bloated in 50GB

EA will never do that, they want you to play the latest DICE slop.
Yeah, that's probably true if the franchise itself is still pushing out new titles. Command and Conquer Remastered Collection probably only got the green light because the series itself has been dead for almost a decade prior. And thankfully the remaster was done by Petroglyph who is made up of old Westwood devs. Chances are we'll never see a Sims 1 remaster as long as Cool Wine Aunts and Homosexuals keep filling EA's coffers for new Sims 4 content at $20-$40 per pop.

I have no issue buying a remaster later if its fixed, but granted I only buy that stuff at steep discounts or via something like Humble Bundle or a third party keystore. Nightdive released Blood Fresh Supply a tad broke at launch, but few weeks later patched the biggest complaints. I believe I bought it at 50% later on.

Mack's review of the shitty port:

So apparently it's 60 gigs for blurry textures and no Galactic Conquest multiplayer?

Xbone, the Steam release was infinitely better.

The Battlefront collection seems like it's fucked up everywhere.

Definitely even more retarded as at least MCC had the excuse of Halo 3 servers being shut down and it not being available on PC. Although they were shut down much later than MCC's launch.

I'm sure a modder could do the same at a fraction of the space.
Yeah but modders also don't have to obliged by thight deadlines. My assumption is Lucasarts gave them a hard launch date with no compromises of delay. Something must've occurred in upper management where this and Tomb Raider Remasters were being juggled at once, with Tomb Raider collection in particular being one of Asyprs more ambitious projects that isn't just a mere port. Maybe something to do with the fact that its parent company Saber Interactive was handed by Embracer Group (whom just sold them off). Who honestly knows. I don't think the team that worked on this are to blame as much as the powers that be such as LucasArts and Saber Interactive.
