Star Trek - Space: The Final Frontier

I’m not gonna harp on it again. Why even bring it up? Pretty much everyone in that era was behaving out-of-character. The only character I could actually stand was Sarek.
I will always defend Karl Urban’s portrayal of Bones, best thing about those movies and they just never use him because that would take time away from Spock punching someone while screaming.

Still blows my mind that they had Benedict Cumberbatch play an Indian named Khan Noonian Singh just so they could have his appearance be a twist in the story. A brown actor would have given the game away.

Honestly the way Britain is going it won't be surprising if 200 years in the future there are white looking guys named Khan Noonian Singh. So maybe it's not so absurd.
I still think
a) it should have been Garth of Izar but that's another rant
b) if we're doing Khan stuff the way to handle it was they beam onto exactly the Space Seed ship, but bring Chekov. Chekov trips and accidentally activates the guy next to Khan (still Montlebahn in stasis) and he's all "oh wow holy shit that's the big evil hitler khan right there, no time we gotta kill him now nownow" then sherlock grabs a phaser and shoots Khan immediately before anybody can process what's going on, then it turns out he was an even bigger asshole who was a rival of Khan's

And the big reveal "my name... is... Khan" fell flat because it was aimed at the viewers (JJ Abrams' classic memberberry gimmick to avoid character development) and had no impact on young Kirk or his crew because they have never met the people of the Botany Bay.

Remember the first two Abramsverse movies? They set up this Kirk/Uhura/Spock love triangle and then in Beyond they forgot about it. Matter of fact, Spock has literally one noteworthy scene where he says he always considered "Leonard" a friend. That’s supposed to be his arc.

Scotty ends up with more to do than any of the other leads. It’s because Zoe Saldana was penciled in for Endgame. And Simon Pegg was doing Mission: Impossible, so he was bankable. Pine couldn't carry a solo film (Jack Ryan). Quinto was doing theater. It's not an "ensemble", more like a pecking order.

I needed season 3 of TOS on Bluray so I just preordered the 60th aniversery set. Can't wait to get my hands on it.

Looking into this, it's a bit underwhelming tbh. The actual episodes are still just the ones from the old blu-ray sets, the only new additions are the feelies, like the lobby cards and soundtrack. For a fancy 60th anniversary set priced over $160, you'd think they would've put more effort into it, like a new 4k remaster or at least re-cut the episodes back to their original broadcast versions using the since-recovered SFX footage.

Something I like about Beyond is how it gives plenty of screentime to Spock and McCoy's friendship. One of my favorite moments in Star Trek movie history is McCoy distracting Spock long enough to cauterize his wound while he screams in agony.

ayeah, but as I said I needed season three and I got it for $130, so it works for me.

If anything, Kirk has even less motivation to listen to him. It's like saying, "I'm Bin Laden and your boss is doing some shady shit at Abu Garaib" to Seal Team Six.
