So it got revealed that the new Star Fox game is being developed by a random american studio whose greatest achievment is the creation of electric mario kart toys:

Also I swear to god not just keeping the iconic old translations is one of the worst mistakes this game will make.

Remember, modern "remakes" are designed to be replacements for the old, however superior or inferior they may be (see the RE Engine resident evil games).
I don't disagree, which is why I'm glad SF64 is still readily available. Choice is king.
IT SURE IS.

Most of the graphic settings have to be set to ultra to render a lot of stuff correctly. If it still doesn't works correctly I guess you have to bully the dev about it.
I see. I'll try that next.

To be honest, i would rather have Krystal to be entirely removed from the series, if the price to keep her around is having her being hit with the ugly stick and her character being botched even worse than Command did.
Krystal is in Smash as a trophy (heh) for Fox, so you can't remove her that easily unless you also delete her from future Smash games. We'll see.

Why is Krystal PNG by Nintendo?
Not sure what you mean here.

About that: As expected, the demo showed that the dialogue got censored, but it seems the English version is censored too, so the game will be watered down further than I thought. Can't have harsh words in a war setting.

Those experiencing the Star Fox 64 remake demo have lamented the less memorable quality of the game’s voice-acting, additionally finding that one particular line calling a villain a “monkey” being removed completely.

One of the earlier levels in the game had Falco calling the boss of the stage a monkey, but the line was found to be suspiciously removed from the remake, despite it keeping many other nostalgic lines intact. [...]
Many are theorizing that the line was perhaps removed because “monkey” is often used as a racial insult, despite the fact that the boss Falco was addressing is an actual monkey.

Sadly, this change is even present in the Japanese version of the demo:
So yeah. The line about "your father screamed real good" will won't be a thing, I bet.

Star Fox Adventures felt clunky and it's obviously an outside game crammed into the SF franchise, for good and bad. Assault has its flaws but it was a good try. Command is a good idea with terrible execution, doubly so with the shit controls. SF Zero could have been good if it wasn't for the shit controls.
Adventures was nice at the time (honestly still is) for the visuals but it was at the absolute peak of Rareware’s collectathon autism on top of it being a bland rip-off of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
The game is great-looking and has its moments, but it is not a great game and shows Rareware’s flaws at its worst on top demonstrating that making a Zelda clone is easier said than done:

  1. it takes forever to do anything in the game because Rare got too far up their own asses with cinematics for damn near everything and overdone animations
  2. because of 1, combat is very unsatisfying since it’s obvious that they prioritized Fox having cool-looking attacks over having combat that actually feels like a fight and not mashing A while holding a direction
  3. because of 1, exploration is a drag, since you constantly have to backtrack to previous locations and watch the same slow climbing animations or slink through the same loading areas over and over
  4. Rare’s hard-on for collecting items is at its worst in SFA, with practically every event requiring a Macguffin to progress, with many items being very situational or one-time use items
  5. the gameplay is very schizophrenic, going from a facsimile of a Star Fox game, to a Zelda clone, to one of many Rare-branded minigames that seldom elevate the main gameplay mechanics or demand any sort of mastery
  6. the world is essentially level-based, but with obvious and cumbersome loading areas that give the impression of exploring a seamless world
  7. because of 6, every area feels like THE GRASS LEVEL, THE FIRE LEVEL, THE BEACH LEVEL, THE SNOW LEVEL, etc, and do not feel like anything more than video game areas
  8. useless abilities litter your “skillset” that are never useful outside of “puzzles” and a handful of enemies that require the use of a certain skill
  9. Krystal is useless and only is relevant at the beginning and very end of the story, when Fox essentially claims her as a prize after she joins them for no reason at all, since their only interaction is at the end when she is freed and pissed that Fox has her staff

Assault was a good idea executed mediocrely (if it was made after Resident Evil 4 and Halo 2 it probably would have learned some lessons from those games to fix some of its issues). Command was a DS novelty that honestly never should have been made. Zero was so unappealing that I only played they first level at a friend’s house before deciding I didn’t want it.

Thankfully, 64 remake is actually good from what I’ve played. My only issue is that the voice acting isn’t as dramatic as N64, but it still does its job and I appreciate some of the additional world and character building.

Well hey, it does at least have a really awesome FFVII-esque take on the boss theme now
Eh, I think it's too much for a random boss. Should be saved for Andross. And even then I don't recall SFox's music being that much of a big deal.

"Persona non grata"
Right. Wasn't sure since I thought you meant "a PDF" or something like that. Well, her issue is that she's an extremely underdeveloped character who exists mostly so that SFox has female representation, as well as being a blatant suggestive piece. She overdoes it, and there's no way it will be kept that way in Current Year, when even Mario isn't allowed to rescue a princess anymore due to equality or something. So it's unlikely things will stay the same.
Look at Katt, that girl shows for like 30 seconds in 64 and she's been given the Zebra Wilson treatment of becoming uber-ugly!

Krystal is useless and only is relevant at the beginning and very end of the story, when Fox essentially claims her as a prize after she joins them for no reason at all, since their only interaction is at the end when she is freed and pissed that Fox has her staff
She shows up to thank Fox for rescuing her, but it's played as if it was a booty call for hilarity.
I'm certain she needed someone to drive her away from the planet as her tiny ship didn't look like much.

appreciate some of the additional world and character building.
Most of which were notes scattered here and there, such as Fox's birthplace being not-Tatooine, which makes him a desert fox, heh. The censorship is annoying though, plus the new lines are overdone and bland.

Tried the demo and enjoyed it. It looks, feels and sounds (for the most part) like an enhanced version of Star Fox 64. Mission accomplished there. The script changes are going to take some getting used to, but the original writing seems decent so far.

Regarding the "monkey" line, has there ever been any other dialogue in a Star Fox game that refers to someone as an animal or with an animal trait?

I also have a feeling that the "Einstein" line will be gone.

Star Fox 64
Falco: "Time to show the monkey who's boss!" (in Japanese this is "Let's show the monkeys the difference between them and us!")
Slippy: "I'm monkey food if I don't leave!" (only worded this way in English)
Andrew: "Stick to the pond, Froggie!"
Andrew: "Did you think an inferior animal like you could meet Master Andross!" (only said in Japanese; English line is "We'll make sure you'll never reach Andross!")

Star Fox Assault (a lot of these might only be worded this way in the English version, I don't have the Japanese lines convenient for me to check)
Fox: "ROB! Find the blackhearted ape's location!"
Fox: "All right! This time we take that ape down!"
Fox "Oikonny, you ignorant ape, what are you up to?!"
Falco: "Where did that crazed chimp, Oikonny, go?!?"
Falco: "You haven't changed a bit, frog boy."
Falco: "This is ridiculous! Fox! Take care of that stupid frog, will you?"
Falco: "You dirty swine!"
Falco: "You swine! But you're supposed to be dead!"
Falco: "Shut your trap, lizard, or you and I are gonna scrap!"
Falco: "Great, it's the lizard boy, Leon."
Falco: "Not bad for a fox,"
Krystal: "It's OK. The general's a tough old hound dog."
Wolf: "Quit your croaking, toady."
Wolf: "When I'm finished with you, I'm gonna have a foxtail for my spaceship!"
Wolf: "You stupid dog! Get a hold of yourself!"
Leon: "Well looks like I'm better than the bird..."
Leon: "Are you all beak and no bite, birdbrain?"
Panther: "Quiet, bird."
Andrew: "No quarter! Show these dogs we mean business!"
Cornerian soldier: "Stinking Ape! We underestimated the strength of his reserves..."
monkey criminal: "Let's skin this fox and his whole crew"
monkey criminal: "We got the fox cornered!"
monkey criminal: "Let's skin this fox already!"

Star Fox Command (the English script deviates a lot from Japanese, so a lot of these might only be in English)
Fox: "That lousy ape is nothing more than a crazed maniac!"
Falco: "What's up, froggy? I just got here."
Falco: "That dang frog! I bet he's dippin' his webbed toes in a nice pool somewhere!"
Falco: "Don't pretend, frog. You just want to go see your new squeeze!"
Falco: "Not bad. Maybe you weren't dropped on your head as a pup after all."
Wolf: "I hate that frog..."
Wolf: "That birdbrain turned and ran, eh? Or maybe he screwed up and became Anglarian fried chicken!"
Wolf: "Tweet tweet tweet! Is that all you got, little birdy?"
Pigma: "Box? You arrogant... hrrfff...bird..."
Pigma: "...Talk...talk...enough talk... Now you die... little birdy..."
Anglar Emperor: "Your little band did well to track us this far. Perhaps the dog can smell a scent other then his own fear."
enemy: "Those frogs look delicious! Yum yum!"

Just going off number of lines, Falco is definitively the most racist character in Star Fox.

Since they just had to go and censor shit, this could've easily been changed to "You gonna listen to that sleazeball?" and it would've had the same intended effect instead of this generic, watered-down "I-It's a trick! Don't let your guard down!"
Noo, we can't have racism and in-universe slurs in a war! That would be bad!

And he was amusing for that and felt plausible, despite being a literal bird-brain. Actually, scratch that. Fox is the one who had his 80 years-long debt ship breaking down by Assault, while Falco had enough streets-marts to lead a gang and do something else when Fox can't find work.

I think you mean adventures? That's when Falco bogged off, only to turn up in the final battle.

I may be misremembering, but I swear Falco was doing something else at the start of Assault too.

EDIT:

Nevermind. Got stuff confused with the manga that explains what happened between SF1 and Adventures.

It's funny since Star Fox 64 N64 Switch Online exists.

Noo, we can't have racism and in-universe slurs in a war! That would be bad.

I'm cynical enough to believe they will tone down anything war related in the remake, like stating that all ships and mechas are unmanned drones or that none of Adross' generals died when you take them down.

I get the cynicism, but like, they definitely show the guy in Meteo going down with the ship and not getting away, and he's constantly taunting you during the fight. Not to mention the entire point you're going to Fichina is now made clearer in an unflattering manner: when Slippy interrupts the chat by asking why anyone would bother with a frozen rock, Peppy reveals it's where Cornerian's military intelligence is located, and Falco outright calls it out as General Pepper's dirty laundry. Fox teases that and General Pepper's response is 'I can neither confirm nor deny that'.

The end product may end up not the best, but I don't know if it's really that bad.
