These two are retellings of the first game so they're not exactly new. In fact, having checked the entire franchise, it's indeed true that a quarter of the whole thing is all about the same story.
Nintendo would do well to throw a few bucks to any desperate and moderately competent animation studio to spin out a Star Fox anime to promote this revival. It would cost them little and give them more room to play with by expanding the game universe.
Then again, modern Nintendo is probably wary on what to do with Krystal from now on: Uglify her and the fans will rage. Keep her as she is and the feminazis will rage.
No matter what, it's a lose/lose situation for them.

Wasn't it Miyamoto who told Rare to sex up Krystal in Adventures? She's certainly less conservative than the protagonist of Dinosaur Planet.

Also: Splatoon.

Rate me rainbows, but I think they're aware of Krystal's appeal and won't really alter her too much. Think modern design with realistic textures.

It was Imamura who got involved and drew Krystal's new design himself (which makes any complaints from people saying Krystal doesn't artistically fit with the rest of the cast rather ironic). I'm not sure if Miyamoto was directly involved, but at the least Imamura implied Miyamoto would approve because Miyamoto had said in the past he wanted a sexy female character in Star Fox.

The gameplay mechanics of Command are better fleshed out than Assault's, but you see all there is to offer by the time you finish one out of nine routes. Even if you strip Assault down to only its Arwing sections it's a huge step down from 64.

That being said, I still like the ideas of Assault just fine, it's more suitable for a reimagining than another retread of 64

I agree with you. But hear me out.

You have to start with yet another Star Fox/64 remake to get your foot in the door with a new fanbase. The old guys are hyped and the younger guys are interested and kids will want to know what game that cool guy from the movie is in. Star Fox is a simple remake with lots of upsides and low risk.

We will get our new Star Fox game once this remake is a hit. And it will be. The next game may already be in the works based off the pre-release hype for the remake. And if the footage of the game is anything to go by, maybe Nintendo have finally figured out that they don't need to overthink Star Fox.

I believe I read somewhere that the idea was to attract a more mature audience with Krystal, I wasn't aware that her over-the-top design was deliberate (and IMO she still stands out a bit compared to the rest because she's from a different game). I suppose the idea was to get a more adult audience for a game that wasn't meant to be as childish as say Mario. Well, they did, kek.
Not sure what Japs think about furries.

I finally tried Event Horizon. It feels janky, but it's surprisingly polished for a 2-guy project, probably because the engine behind is solid. It's 22+ GB of space though, which I didn't find mentioned anywhere. Thankfully, it can be compressed to save some space, which is a welcome surprise when games today are so poorly optimized.

I really wish this site had a "half-agree" rating because that's what I'd preferably give you here. I understand the point he's making about starting the franchise fresh to get new people invested in it, but when that "fresh start" looks like complete shit, people shouldn't feel obligated to still buy it anyway with the expectation that we'll get more Star Fox if it succeeds. It's the exact same shitty guilt-tripping tactic of "if this new Star Fox game doesn't sell well, you'll never get another one again!" that Nintendo's already used every other time they've rebooted this god-forsaken franchise, and I'm not falling for it in a million years. If I had to pick between no new official Star Fox media vs. this Nu-Fox abomination becoming the new direction that this franchise continues with for the next 30 years, I'd pick the former in a heartbeat. If the latter scenario comes to pass, then I might as well just kill myself because that would be a hell on Earth nobody sensible should ever strive for. Unironically fuck anyone who buys this shit, you deserve to suffer if you do.

They could've at least added a Sonic Heroes Team Dark-style parallel storyline for Star Wolf, it's not like 64 is a long game.

It's not 'I am a furry and I want to masturbate to animals', it's 'if I'm going to make a girl version of Bugs Bunny/Mickey Mouse/Fox McCloud, I'm going to look at what human girls look like and use them as a base'. Of course there's some psychological overlap there but I really doubt someone like him is that goon-brained.

Besides, the idea there is 'Peach is wearing a skintight outfit as opposed to a looser dress', not 'cats are erotic'.

Osamu Tezuka, who predates Miyamoto, was a closet-furry. Miya may or may not be one, but the idea of making Krystal a bombshell was intentional to attract the teenager audience. That cutscene where Fox spots her was so over-the-top that I dunno if it would be allowed today, with many game devs having been neutered regarding the male gaze.
Sadly we know for sure that another Conker game won't ever happen in this timeline.
