Possibly my favourite horror movie is The Wicker Man. It kind of pisses me off that the awful remake has overshadowed it in the public consciousness.
I’m also a big fan of An American Werewolf in London, which is not only a brilliant comedy horror, but has some fantastic practical effects.
 
What are the perimeters of this thread, incidentally? I have some stuff I'd like to recommend but I'm not certain it would fit in this thread.

And anime Frankenstein, which features one of the most melodramatic endings I've ever seen in a movie:

 
The somewhat unconventional vampire film Captain Kronos from Hammer


From 2011, the indie horror film Absentia - after seven years a woman's missing husband is about to be declared officially dead. Her sister moves in with her and they and the detective who investigated her husband's case begin to make some connections that point to a nearby pedestrian tunnel


From 1974 - one of the BBC's "A Ghost Story for Christmas" productions, in this case based on the short story "The Treasure of Abbot Thomas" by Montague Rhodes James, whose tales of the supernatural have been quite influential on future writers.

 
Halloween 3 is goofy as fuck and features a plot by a druidic cult to put Stonehenge into Halloween masks and then broadcast a subliminal commercial that activates a microchip in the masks to turn children's heads into snakes and locusts. You should watch it.

 
Can't have a spooky movie thread without bringing up The Exorcist. Was a real blast to watch from start to finish and the special effects still hold up pretty well mostly. Also the Boondocks made a hilarious parody of this movie too! Go watch both if you haven't already, you won't regret it!

 
Bloodbeat. Its got rednecks, psychics, samurai ghosts killing people, psychic battles, sex energy. Shot by a French director in the heart of Wisconsin in the early 80s. Very strange but enjoyable slasher. Got a reissue last year by Vinegar Syndrome on bluray. Was only ever released on VHS before that.

Necroing this because I hadn't noticed this was posted in this thread until now. That's just great, especially the Cow and Chicken episode. (They put out a Cartoon Network Halloween DVD long ago, and had C&C on it, but it wasn't the actual Halloween episode.)

Not Halloween-themed, but has a suitably spooky vibe, and is informative. Also narrated by Leonard Nimoy, which is a nice touch.
 
Wonderful movie, I still get chills to this very day from watching it

Every October, I try to watch some films from the Horror genre that I've never seen before.

I got a little busy this year and couldn't really deep dive the way I normally do, but checked out a few sequels that had escaped me before now:

- Paranorman was a fun animated film with the vibe of something like Monster Squad. Most of the characters are assholes, but if you're willing to put up with that, it is an enjoyable flick.

- I finally got around to watching Curse of Chucky and Cult of Chucky, and honestly, I enjoyed them. Curse was better because of its "back to basics" approach. Cult was fun, but didn't take full advantage of the premise. Still though, it is always a delight to hear Brad Dourif as Chucky.

- And I watched Lights Out which did a really good job of presenting its monster and the rules for how it works. I wouldn't call it a favorite, but it makes for a fun watch, especially a night with the lights off.
 
I watched the old Corman / Price version of Masque of the Red Death. Mostly good, but holy shit Corman rolled a nat 1 on his "don't be Roger Corman" rolls for those artsy parts.

Also when Vincent is hollering about how that one guy is wearing red, it doesn't work so well when wardrobe didn't pay attention and like five people are wearing red.

TCM's showing that on Halloween night alongside some other Vincent Price films. The last few days of their October schedule have been and will be full of great old horror films - The Bad Seed, Village of the Damned, the 1932 Island of Dr. Moreau, Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?, the Val Lewton Cat People - and of course, King Kong and Night of the Living Dead.

I kind of wish they'd showed some more of the old Universal horror films, though. I want to see Bride of Frankenstein again; it's the best Universal monster movie bar none.

They showed a lot of great horror films this month, but the only ones I recorded were the silent Faust by F.W. Murnau and The Fearless Vampire Killers, which a friend of mine says is good but everyone else does not.
