RTA Japan is a good speedrunning event. It's purely japanese and even though you can't understand a lick of what they are saying and they tend to ramble nonstop during some runs to an annoying degree, it's at least free of troon infestation.
Also they have more biological women speedrunning games there than all xGDQs from the last 10 years combined.
And unlike xGDQ, they have a wide selection of games they play through that isn't indie troon slop or just more Dark Souls copycat slop.

You won't be able to understand their explanation during runs, but you can at least see people having fun and you don't need to understand japanese to see that it's all around a good time for everyone.

Game variety does tend to be an annoying issue to me. At the same time, being a Japanese event makes them infinitely more susceptible to Japan's legal corpo autism, hence why Nintendo walked all over them recently.

It's entirely possible these games are just plants from the devs who contribute to GDQ's completely obviously astroturfed donations in exchange for featuring their games on their dwindling-but-still-kinda-high viewership.

As far as I can tell, there hasn't been any injection of corpo stuff or ads. I've mostly just been watching them on youtube and it feels a lot more grassroots than whatever GDQ has become. If you ask me, it's definitely the lesser evil and I'd take corpo over troonery anyway.

I have never seen a chinese runner on anything. Even looking through the official speedrunning website, a lot of records are mostly dominated by NA, EU and JP with maybe an occasional Taiwanese thrown in there somewhere.

My favorite part about GDQ will always be how they created an entirely separate event about women in speedrunning (Frame Fatales) and it immediately got infested and taken over by trannies.

I remember one of those “”Women only””” esports meetup pictures going viral on twitter because it was literally all dudes in skirts. The room looked rancid. Twitter poked fun at it for a while. Unfortunately, I cant find the photo.

You weren’t lying about “Frame Fatales” being entirely for crossdressing men. I almost burst out laughing skimming through this video and all of the voices were so deep and manly. How do they even apply for this with a straight face knowing it will only be other men wearing wigs.

It's mostly just a comfy feeling that you get, same as if you were just hanging out with some bros, playing games and breaking them open to see how fast you could beat them. Cracking some jokes, sometimes skirting the line of what's appropriate, having some awkward interactions that were normal for introverted geeks. I personally liked watching games that I loved get taken apart and know how it was done. Sometimes I would use speed tech to play other games in new ways. It was really neat to me. Even better when they started doing it for charity. It was like I got to hang out with some friends and play games and doing it for a good cause.

A lot of people just like that comfy feeling that gets taken away when things become bigger, popularized and corpos get involved. Things lose that magic when a small group of friends becomes a massive crowd. Especially when that crowd takes over everything and morphs it into their soapbox.

The fun was twofold. There used to be good runners actually breaking real records sometimes, and there was cringe to savor once in a while. There was also the spectacle of really technically impressive skips.
