Speedrun Event General - AGDQ Up! - Exceptional people play games really fast

I think the Skyward Sword run going on right now is pretty impressive in a technical sense. On the other hand, it's either too complicated for me to comprehend, I'm too tired to understand it, or he's doing a bad job of explaining. My working theory is a combination of the three. Regardless, it's pretty clear that "HONK!" is the "ORB!" or "WAHHH!" of this GDQ: a joke that really wasn't that funny the first time, but is extremely not funny the 900th time.

Just imagine the HONK during goose game. It's gonna be off the charts.

Gym is a pretty good commentator, but I haven't been paying too much attention. Unfortunately a lot of the time he talks about the game like the people listening know exactly what everything means. Haven't seen this run since the new tech was found and was impressed that they walked right by the first boss.

Edit: So Chibi is supposed to be on the couch for Goose game. Get ready for that.

Well. That should be something. Something good, something bad, I don't know. But something. At least it's a game that's so self-explanatory he can act like a total sperg on commentary and it won't really hurt much.

Actually, the most Chibi-like thing to have happen would be him getting thrown out of AGDQ before the run even happens.

Shockingly, perpetually depressed and miserable speedrunner attempts to transition (poorly) and is still depressed and miserable.

It's a shame, because Claris/Miles is a quality speedrunner and has had several memorable runs at GDQ over the years. At the same time, they've done this on Twitter before, so leave it to your own determination as to how serious this really is.
Last time I tried to determine that was with Etika, so in my opinion anything is possible.

It's kind of funny how ineptly this whole thing run, despite how corporate and soulless it's become. Why is there so much downtime between each game? Surely it doesn't take 15 minutes to switch consoles? I understand that they have to build anticipation for an upcoming run, with the terrible, cringy interviews they do. But why is there consistently almost 10 minutes of the crowd cam, which is nothing but literal autists and furfags 'dancing' to vidya game music?

Dante, which circle of hell is this?

I understand the ocd associated with something like sped running. And I respect that. It's par for the course. But 20+ minutes between the current run and the last? It's gotten worse over the years, I think.

Btw what's the name of the host with the beard and jew fro? Whenever RLM Nerd Crew refer to an 'embarrassing manchild', I instantly think of him :story:

It's definitely worse. Their estimates for game changeovers are usually around 10 minutes, and they've been pretty consistently in the 8-13 minute range for years. This time, they've been going 20+ consistently. It is a new venue for them, which might be some of the problem, but AFAIK the video and audio is done by actual professionals, so it shouldn't take them this long to sort that out.

Just an autistic thing that annoys me, why do they use headsets in the interview room? If this shit is done by real professionals, couldn't they just set up a real mic in the room? Or do they need to shill the sponsor's headsets all the time even when it looks super amateurish?

It looks too "gamer" for my tastes, but maybe that's the reason why they do this. That's the aesthetics they are aiming for, full of RGB LEDs and all this gay shit.

Has there ever been a funny running gag in the speedrun community? It’s always “TEH URN” or some other Reddit-tier meme.

Of course not. Spend time with any fandom where the make up is largely autistic dorks and you'll see that shit in all of them. One of the main reasons I don't go to any events or hang out at shops that cater to "geeky" hobbies. Wall to wall man babies that get their humour from Family Guy type shit and Reddit.

I don't know if the interview room is an actual room or just off to the side of the stage, it could be for noise cancelling purposes.

Loved the Fallout 4 diarama, by the way. This run turned pretty great.

Fallout Anthology has been great so far. Tomato is really good with his explanations and adds some humor to it that isn't HONK or ORB. And the T Swift pipboy got me.

It's in the same room as the main stages and all the people, just off to the side. I feel like Sent is too greasy to hang on to a live mic without ruining it, and they probably don't wanna dish out the money for multiple mics when they can get the headsets for free.
