Those PS4 players are long gone. They're not coming back to Sony.
A lot of online stores behave this way, believe it or not: every non-Switch Nintendo system, PS3, PSP, and Vita. You just need one or two keys depending on the game and you can download anything from anywhere. Nintendo/Sony can’t do anything about it because it would involve radically changing how these services work and it would also hurt people who legitimately bought their games (or something, I’m not an expert on these things).

It is weird, because they knew for the 3DS. Freeshop used to exist until Nintendo patched their servers to not work with it anymore. Why they didn’t do the same for Wii U beats me.

That ship has sailed. At this point, with no exclusives and no new games on the horizon except baldy-lesbo space opera, the value proposition for the PS5 is dead in the water.

It's not just innovation, it's because the PS2 hardware is inheriently retarded to work with since as part of it they decided to run all the external I/O and audio processing off a partial PS1-on-a-chip which meant they got stuck with fuck all for controller ports again since anything else would mean having to engineer the world's smallest multitap on die thanks to just reusing the PS1 bus setup with "MagicGate" taped on.
I'm beginning to wonder if the japs at Sony are deliberately allowing the californians to sabotage the Playstation brand to such an insane degree and waste billions upon billions of dollars just out of spite for the brand. At this point they probably view the Playstation as a liability compared to their greater electronics and media empire and are laughing to themselves because said empire has already recouped all of their losses at the hands of Herman Hulst. They want to let the DEI clown show continue to humiliate itself and America in general before the japs giddily sign the paperwork to metaphorically post-birth abort them

one major thing you forgot: emulation, unless that's included under "open playing field". the ability to play pretty much any game from any era means you could go your whole lifetime without touching modern AAA goyslop.
Pretty much. Sony has their hand in pretty much every industry you can imagine worldwide, including phones, computers, TVs, audio equipment, storage media, cars, music (including Michael Jackson's entire catalog), film, cameras, and financial services among other things
it's a big part but won't implode sony. even if they lost 30% of their income overnight, that's just 30% less, at which point they can still course correct, if not sell off SIE to cash out. it takes a while for big companies to actually go under and not get picked apart in the process.
Not likely. The woke want 3 things: Power, the spread of their, in their eyes perfect, ideology and minimal effort. Destroying the company on purpose would put a wedge in all of those things. They just cannot make peace with the fact that they and their beliefs suck and no one really want them (not even themselves want it which is why they are never comfortable in their own skin) and that causes companies to fail.
