I don't see gaming as a hobby dying like from the 1982 gaming crash since there are other options readily available. I can say that AAA gaming is becoming unsustainable in its current state. Consoles being more expensive and less desirable is just one effect of that.

It’s amazing how many people still don’t know that Steam does have a DRM-free option and it’s entirely up to the publisher. Even some of Valve’s own games are DRM-free.

So yes, selling 4 times the amount of systems while only selling a bit under double the amount of games is pathetic, but expected.
But even more hilarious(and sad) is that those gamecube games will be playable on a gamecube in 30 years(assuming the media doesn't get damaged obviously). Those ps5 games will mostly be useless without their 50GB+ day 1 patches required for the game to do more than boot.

Also, keep in mind that any of those ps5 titles that lists "alinea analytics" as its source straight up has no source. I did a weirdly deep dive on them once, for example, their claim that spidernigger 2 sold 16 million, despite sony's last official update for it putting it at 12 million, has no source, like all their claims, and literally comes from them saying "yeah, it probably sold 200k+ a month consistently ever since launch despite being forgotten and never appearing on the sales charts of anyone with actual data and sources, that seems reasonable".

We're in the age when Oracle kosher nepo baby cunts are putting out therapy 'games' about themselves, not in any way trying to be good games that people want to play (Mixtape). And we're in the age where the semitic gaming media is so blatantly bought out they're giving those therapy 'games' straight 10/10s. It's grim.

Sony has a habit of overestimating themselves. They dominated the PS1 gen out of the gate and did even better with the PS2, which made Kutaragi shove his head up his ass and thr PS3 resulted. Realizing their fuckups early enough, the PS4 was a relatively no-nonsense console. Then they won by simply not being as retarded as MS, and now we have all this bullshit with the PS5.
Expect the PS6 to be their worst console yet, because they never had their balls slapped this gen because the competion was leagues worse.

The one thing I wanted to give Sony over Microsoft was responding to consumer feedback regarding the PSN store. Now, that is closing indefinitely soon now.
Of course, this means that a lot of digital only media will be potentially lost over time. The insult to injury for this is Sony positioning towards digital only releases for their exclusives despite proving that digital releases or storefronts would not exist in perpetuity.
If you buy a PlayStation console now, you're buying hardware where you will have limited options to buy and keep your purchases. PlayStation consumers are under Sony's will with their assurances that those licenses would be accessible for however long they decide. YOU WILL NOT OWN ANYTHING WITH PLAYSTATION, or potentially any future technology.
