Any recommendations for what to get from the sonic sale? I always wanted to try out sonic adventure, but I'm not sure if it's worth it.
SADX is a bad, watered down port of the Dreamcast original. It's so bad that someone made entire blog just to complain about every single way the game was degraded throughout the ports. However, the game can be modded to restore the majority of what's been lost. Otherwise, I find the game to be pretty enjoyable.

SA2 also has some visual downgrades through the ports, particularly with model animations and lighting. The worst thing about it though is that the game applies gray material colors to the characters, making them look unnaturally dark. Those too can be overcome with mods. Like SA1, I find it very enjoyable, but the game does have some negative quirks compared to the first game, such as the nerfed Emerald Radar (which can be fixed with the Mod Loader's cheat menu) or the Somersault Attack killing all of your momentum (A mod exists to remove this effect).

tl;dr Your standard "HD" rush-job. About what I would expect from Sega.

I was unimpressed with their Skies of Arcadia port. Then again, that isn't their flagship series. Plus it had a lot of good bonus content. You'd expect some polish when introducing Sonic to a wider audience.

It also sucks that I have to emulate or buy a used Dreamcast to plays those games the way I was meant to.

It also pretty embarrassing that it takes the fanbase to pave over the mile-wide cracks of the HD ports. Thankfully, most of the cracks for the Adventure titles have since been paved over, or even made better than they were before.

For instance, the "Cutscene Revamp" mod by SPEEPSHighway. Not only does it remove the bad material colors from the characters, but it restores missing audio and animations, readjusts dialogue so that it doesn't overlap, and lowers the volume of the music so that you can actually hear the characters speaking.

Overall, while the ports on their own are a massive downgrade, I think having the ability to mod the game to restore what was lost in translation as well as to make the game better than it was before is a major plus in these versions' favor.

Randomizer in a platform game? 🤔 How does it work?
Basically it just gives you a random character in a random stage, with some level edits to ensure it’s beatable. It’s tough to beat a Sonic level as Big, but relaxing to glide across a shooting stage as Knuckles, just to give some examples.

I always did want to play City Escape as Knuckles

so i played and finished CD last weekend and i had a pretty good time. the time travel stuff was clunky as shit so i pretty much gave up on that quick and fuck getting the time stones. only manages to get 2 of them. the one thing i will say is the soundtrack is so GOD DAMN GOOD! i played both with US and JP ost but the US version, while good, is nothing compered to the JP version. what kind of mad man decided not to just have the JP version all the way!? would just stop and listen to the music until i realize i was on a time limit and it happened more than once. the stages were rather short even compared to sonic 2 levels but i guess that's why they encourage you to explore which again, 2D sonic and exploration dose not go hand in hand.

2D sonic and exploration does not go hand in hand.
This implies that 3D Sonic and exploration go in hand. They do not.

Remember how they tried encouraging it in SA1 and 2? Rather than traverse the levels like you're supposed to, you're farming animals/drives for the Chao Garden.
