It had Surge and Kit, but with the way things are going now in both the story and the release schedule, their fall from grace might drag on for years if it even does happen
Well, it had that race with a mysterious racer that... Yeah, nope. It's all filler. When you open with a goddamn robo-zombie apocalypse and then walk it back as if it never happened, you kill all potential tension.

So, nothing then?. The worst part is, i've been stumbling on a lot video essays about Metal Virus being "The darkest and most mature Sonic story ever!!!"

And i'm left wondering, and then what?, did any character die? did any character get any development? did the Metal Varus leave any real impact in the world?, nothing?, zero? nada?. The fact that the Metal Virus were Archie's leftovers and writers seem to only care about their OC's tells me all i need to know about IDW's run.

Because everything else has been weak compared to this overtly long arc.

nd i'm left wondering, and then what?, did any character die?
None important, only some of the evil OCs, of course, accidentally depriving the comic of other non-Eggman villains.

did any character get any development?
Nope. Except for the OCs like Whisper, barely.

did the Metal Varus leave any real impact in the world?,
Amusingly enough, nope as well.
It was nothing compared to when Eggman broke the world into pieces, since no human or major city was affected.
Odd how only in the DC x Sonic IDW comic sequel finally a random human dude shows up, likely by accident.

Honda Civic with tinted windows and that bumper guard hanging from the back... couldn't get a good look at the driver

Gives us something to laugh at what color the world's burning
You mean ours, or Sonic's?

But I'd imagine that most people would just read it for a few issues and just let it go.
I bet. That's what I did once I noticed that everything is filler. There's a disconnect between the world and the characters, especially the main cast, so that nothing that happens really does anything to the latter, especially Sonic, who has a plot armor thicker than The Rock's own. Plus the insistence on showing barren worlds with no important secondary characters and even no humans for some reason makes the comic feel bland.
They're barely using, if at all, locations of previous games as well, not even Station Square.
Then there are the fan sections which occasionally show manmade horrors, and the writers being blatantly SJW and insufferable, especially in their social networks.
I suppose that children that don't know about Archie Sonic have nothing else to go for Sonic comics (unless they find that Sonic manga which is miles better).
It's also laughable how the OCs do have reactions changes and everything, but it doesn't matter because the main cast won't be affected and these OCs are not important until they show up in the main games. As well as annoyingly insist on the sniper wolf and the dumb lemur's pairing despite starting out as friends.

Speaking of IDW Sonic.

The recent comic was just filler, nothing happens in it. The only thing that matters is the Starline expy is on Angel Island, gets scared off from the Master Emerald by Knuckles and Tails while Sonic and Amy get gassed and hallucinate copies of the other.

Why do people like IDW again?
Because they can ship the gay OCs.

To be fair, I really do enjoy these new characters for their designs and concepts. Tangle especially looks like a video game character with a fun control gimmick (that being her stretchy tail), you can tell she was inspired by the grappling hook mechanic in Forces. Surge, Kit, Starline and Mimic to an extent look like they could be actual bosses with their own fighting styles.

The biggest issue in my opinion is how forced and melodramatic their writing can get. Characters like Belle and Whisper especially come across as the biggest angst magnets, and the crying scenes are just a lot. I don't really mind it in characters like Surge and Kit, because they've got other things going on besides being traumatised

Someone scares them off with gas stolen from The Scarecrow, but way weaker as they're not immediately tripping balls. Then again, Sonic has a very limited emotional range so it probably doesn't affect him, kek.
It's likely Starline with some bionics to compensate for his wounds, or a new villain. The coffin on his back is borrowed from Gungrave's design, I believe.

Whisper is the main culprit. She has reasons to be angry and sad, but so do others and they tough it out. As stated, when most of the OCs are angsty with Eggman's latest attempt and the main cast laugh it off, it feels very wonky.
Kit and Surge also feel like they should quietly fade into the background and be forgotten but they're still around for some reason.
I bet Kit and/or Surge, especially the former, won't be adapted into the games except for a token effort, because animating water tentacles is not something that Current Year Team Sonic would do if they can cut corners/costs (unless Chaos shows up, again).

I dunno, Chaos did have some pretty good looking water effects in Forces, so I could still see Kit potentially being in the games. I think the biggest hurdle for him and Surge is from a storytelling perspective. How would you even introduce them to non comic book readers?

Just dropping them in and having them hate the main characters is going to leave people really confused, so I can only see them working in a game that's either awkwardly dumping their lore onto you or a straight up adaptation of the Impostor Syndrome arc. At least Tangle and Whisper could work as just some of Sonic's quirky friends with minimal exposition on any tragic backstories

While their characters getting into the games is what the comic writers want, introducing them through a new rewritten "canon" version of events within the game universe would also make them seethe because it implies the comics aren't strictly canon to the games like they want them to be, so definitely you should do that option.

Most Shadow fans alive today barely know anything about his story from SA2 other than that he's "like Sonic but not a hero". Nevermind the Black Arms.

Plonking Surge and Kit in will go fine after slapping in some exposition scenes like flashbacks or hallucinations, similar to Infinite.

At some point you just have to assume people will know who the characters and setpieces are, like with the Chaos Emeralds, Metal Sonic, or the Babylon Rogues.

I didn't say they can't. I said they won't do that unless absolutely necessary. Chaos REQUIRES water effects, but for someone that's a literal second-rate clone who failed on his first debut? Kit could be shoved into a cutscene-only character with little issue.
As for introducing them, 1 line about being Sonic rivals and that's it.

I hope so, because the Chaotix radio drama introducing them HAD to waste time with their sob story for some reason.

That will likely be what's going to be done as IDW is dying, and the Sonic comic has bad PR with none of Archie's insanity to compensate.
Like Lunar, the they/them/zir self-insert, "I hate my parents and Sonic would totally support my politics!" kid, that had to be retconned at the last second, much to the writer's loathing.

Well, Team Sonic pretends that Shadow game never happened, so no wonder that's the case. The third movie is a good summary of Sonic Adventure 2 if watered down, for what's worth.
If/when the Black Arms are introduced in the movie universe, they'll likely be watered down as well.

It's perfect for people who like stories where nothing interesting happens.

For all the praise IDW gets, i was expecting something a lot better, seriously, i can't remember how many times i've seen "IDW understands Sonic better than Sega!" on social media.

Some kinna horseshit cancel-cult drama happening over the "Sonic's Birthday Livestream" event. Maybe interesting to some of y'all.

Why the fuck is it impossible for people to not spew word salads on fucking Twitter?

If you're going to call out someone, then call them the fuck out. If you don't want controversy, then don't post anything. But don't do this bullshit thing where you try to have your cake and eat it too by calling out someone but doing it in a "nice" way to "not offend" anyone while spilling out your life story that is somehow longer than "War & Peace".

Everyone in this "drama" is faggots.

Which is a complete lie. Games!Sonic is generic good. He used to have some emotional balance back in Adventure but it's all gone now, having become as flat as a board. Meanwhile, IDW!Sanic allegedly values freedom for everyone, which is why he spared Eggman in a moment of weakness, even though killing him was the objectively better choice and doing otherwise technically contradicts his philosophy. Then he spares Surge during her mass-murdering phase and doesn't even throw her in a jail because cops bad I suppose, then breaks character completely to protect a snowflake non-buynary OC self-insert of the writer, because the latter's parents opposed how Sonic "corrupts" children, so Sonic, despite being an orphan, calls the parents are wrong and fights them, because it was a literal "Sonic would support my politics!" moment. Extra points for the OOC for being a split-personality schizo who's a thief that attacked Sonic the minute before, which means Sonic wouldn't just let him walk away.
I like how in the latest issue Sonic was hit by an offbrand fear gas... And it doesn't seem to do much because Sonic has so few emotions, kek.

In short, IDW sucks at everything. Reebot!Archie had the same signs, but at least they had something to work with.

I really hate that IDW has turned Tangle into just an accessory for Whisper. Literally the best of the endless queer and cunty ocs forced into the canon, who actually feels like an actual character that could of existed in the satam era, and is sentenced to forever just be present in the background as trauma the wolf cries about muh squad for the 20th issue.
