Honestly, doing Sonic 3 makes more sense for a sequel anyway. This seems fine to me.

2 is kind of superfluous in terms of story. It's like if Star Wars: A New Hope had the Death Star launch, do nothing and then crash down onto a planet. Works for Star Wars, not so much for Sonic.

I'm actually relieved that they decided to move away from the human characters to focus on the actual stars. Was kinda worried they would keep trying to stick with the Smurfs and He-Man formula with these films out of fear of a lack of relatability. And going with Sonic 3 is a better option since Sonic 2 is pretty uneventful overall.

For sure. Tom and Maddie are still in the movie, but if there's gonna be a road trip aspect again Sonic and Tails are the better option

I mean, I kind of figured they were heading in that direction with the Knuckles reveal. There was also that tease with Dr. Robotnik ending up in the mushroom (hill zone) area at the end of the movie. Setting up the idea that Knuckles would run into him and he'd manipulate him in order to return to Earth and get his revenge on Sonic.

The way Sonic lost his mother figure in the first movie will also help play into the animosity between them as well.

Idris has done voice work in the past when it came to Finding Dory and Zootopia, so I have no doubt that he could do a pretty well voice for Knuckles.

I just hope his character is like this:

To be fair, my boy Knux was already a fusion of Australian and Jamaican, and according to the games, had Incan-ish ancestors. A black British guy is NOT uncanonical. I always envisioned Knux with that range of accent.

My only drawback, I feel like Idris might sound a little too old to be Knuckles. He’s supposed to be sixteen, after all. But not opposed to the choice. Eager to see it!
