These Birds of Prey shills making up shit about how horribly offensive this movie is is some of the dumbest stuff I've ever seen. Like, imagine being this salty because people want to watch a hedgehog go fast.

This is such a stupid timeline.
If they think that's bad, they should see the version of the script from when Sam Raimi was attached.

What are the odds that Sonichu makes it in the sequel?
Considering we got a Sanic reference in this one, anything’s possible. Though it’ll probably just be a reference or something and not outright shown or stated.

Fuck, I just realized this movie was passed by Tom Rothman at Sony. Rothman was the same guy who blocked Deadpool before his co-partner Jim Gianopulous green-lighted it at Fox.

Guess who’s running Paramount now and picked up this movie, Gianopulous himself.

Watched this movie with pretty much zero knowledge of Sonic, and it was a legitimately solid movie. It focused on characterization and interactions first and left the video game shit as bonus references for people who got them. Character writing was good, the contrast between Robotnik and the main character was good, and the theme of a stuck-up urban elite looking down on normal people fit really well with the plot and was a nice theme tying the story together, especially with the main character deciding to live in his small town at the end of the movie.

I think this and Detective Pikachu show that the key to making a good video game movie is to make a good movie containing references to the games rather than trying to actually adapt a video game straight.

Anyone else surprised by the complete shock everyone is expressing that this did well? I can't believe anyone would thought this would bomb.
For me. it would have gone either way. The movie generated a lot of good will when the filmmakers actually fixed Sonic's appearance, and most everyone I knew was morbidly fascinated with how it would turn out. I just wasn't sure how much that extended to the public at large and not the niche groups I interact with. I was expecting it to at least break even.

What caught me off guard was just how well the movie would end up doing. Its debut weekend already exceeded that of Detective Pikachu's, a movie with a far better first trailer and from a franchise that's arguably more popular than Sonic nowadays. I was expecting it to do okay, but I didn't expect it to break box office records and shit.

As much as I enjoy the franchise, I didn't think Sonic was popular enough anymore to pull it off or maybe I'm just too used to the internet shitting on the blue blur. Plus you know, it's a video game movie and we know how those usually turn out. I was very surprised and happy to see not only is it doing well, but it's actually a decent movie. But it would definitely have done worse if they kept the abomination of a design they first put out.

Some dude loses his shit over people liking the Sonic movie.

You know what, a shitty character design is a valid reason to not want to watch a movie and give it money. In fact, any pity reason is perfectly fine, it's THEIR MONEY. People shouldn't give it a chance after they shit on it. IT'S A FUCKING TRAILER. Of fucking course we would judge it by the cover, we are only given 2 minutes of clips from the movie and it more than half of that makes me want to call the cops then I think it's reasonable to dip out on watching it. Fuck these studios aren't entitled to a second chance. I hate consoomer mindset like this.

I do like the contrast this is having with Birds. People were complaining about Harley looking unattractive, so the crew tells everyone to fuck off. Movie bombs.
People complain about Sonic looking weird, so the crew goes back and changes him. Movie breaks records.

It's almost like filmgoers are the ones who decide which movies get paid.
