I'm still not sure if it's just awful or intentionally trying to be a bad 90s adaptation down to Jim Carry and now a random 90s rap song

I still don't know why they went with this embodiment of nightmares, but it makes me think Sega's trying to kill the franchise with this movie.
Maybe it's some 5d chess to sabotage public reception of video game movies before Detective Pikachu and get one last spiteful shot in at Nintendo.

the only reason I can think they'd make sonic look like a horrific human/rodent gene splicing experiment would be to avoid paying royalties to any previous artists who worked on the franchise. and/or a conspiracy to traumatize children.

Wow, they couldn't even bother to put Jim Carrey in a fatsuit to make him even slightly resemble Robotnik.

Shit, they didn't even bother to put any other staple Sonic characters besides just him and Robotnik. Where's Tails, Amy and Knuckles?

This will not only be a massive bomb, it will sweep the razzies, mark my words. What's really sad about this is just how easy it was to not fuck up a Sonic the Hedgehog theatrical film. You can make it in either hand-drawn or computer animation, it doesn't matter, and just have Sonic and his allies in the usual Sonic storyline of finding the chaos emeralds, fighting Robotnik and Metal Sonic and saving the world. That's it. Fuck, just take the Sonic Mania shorts, make them long and fully voiced and boom, you got yourself a perfectly adequate, serviceable Sonic movie. But this? Even the most hardcore of autistic Sonic fans deserve better than this.

Oh, and I said it before but James Marsden what the hell man, was Hop not enough of a wake up call for you to not get involved with these types of films? Do you want to end up like Jason Lee did with those fucking Chipmunk movies?

Looks fresh out of 2007. It's like a hodgepodge of Yogi Bear and that Rocky and Bullwinkle movie. Weirdly there's almost nothing Sonic about it and I'm surprised that in the current year a big studio would green light this. They even missed out on the opportunity to include more hedgehogs to sell more toys.

I get The Emoji Movie, but this, I can't wrap my head around.

When the major appeal of a character (and the only real reason it’s lasted so long despite most of its games sucking) is it’s looks....don’t fucking change the look!

Why couldn't this just be a 3D animated movie? I'll take emoji movie level of animation over this, at least they could make Sonic look like Sonic. I actually had no idea Jim Carrey was Robotnik/Eggman until someone randomly called him doctor, then I was thinking to myself "Wait that is Robotnik?". This is a joke and ultimately should tell everyone that this franchise is just a cash cow. Without Mania Sonic would have went nearly 8 years since Generations came out, which was the last Sonic game worth playing.

This trailer is even sadder because as weird as Detective Pikachu looks at times, it looks fairly good for what it is and I can tell that at least someone was trying to make it look good. To me, Pokemon is a much weirder series to adapt to live action than Sonic due to the array of designs pokemon have, so why Detective Pikachu looks fairly good and Sonic looks like garbage is beyond me.

"Haha this looks so bad I'm going to go see it three times ironically"

"WOW WTF WHY DO THEY KEEP MAKING MOVIES LIKE THIS"

They should've just gone all Space Jam or Pixels and had the Sonic characters come out of the game for X reason, and the plot is trying to get back into the game while also trying not to wreak as much havoc; an adventure fish-out-of-water story. Also could've had a pre-teen or teen be the human lead instead of a grown man. Have the characters keep a bouncy CGI style that isn't realistic, or hyper realistic, and keep them as close to the source as possible. Don't let the movie take itself too seriously, but also don't just be absurd and outlandishly stupid 100% of the time. Maybe try to incorporate a side story involving the human lead that's sympathetic (maybe about growing up? idk).

That probably would've worked (or worked better at least).
