I think this is all a big misunderstanding. This isn't the Sonic movie, it's the Sanic movie.

If this movie is 100% memes I can get behind it.

I've always hated it when movies do that. Bayformers was really terrible in that regard; if I'm going to watch a movie about the transformers, then make it about the transformers, not the stupid humans.

Assuming this is true, then this will just make the movie all the worse for it. No one's going to a Sonic movie to watch some human protagonist, they're going into it to see Sonic.

At least Transformers had precedent in that humans from the start worked with the Autobots. This movie's just pulling a Sonic X and having human OCs be there for audience identification. With an added bonus of drawing interest from those who don't care about Sonic (they hope).

specifically "cop teams up with fantasy creature" which seems to have had a weird little revival with shit like Bright and Detective Picachu and now Sonic after that whole genre seemed to die off with Theodore Rex.

Wonder what inspired this weird little subgenre to get revived.....
