Well... I guess his movies have been so successful, somebody is hoping it will lift up their brand.

I know this is late, but it's fascinating going back to the beginning of the thread and seeing all of the negativity to the original movie design, and now... we're getting a fourth movie in 2027. It's genuinely interesting and entertaining.

The fact there's only ONE* good Mario movie while there are 3 of Sonic is incredible, you would have expected a sequel by now. The Sonic movies are good despite the pozz. On the other hand, this might expose innocent eyes to the insanity that is Sonic fandom.

*Okay, the 90s movie was hilariously bad.

The sonic movies do the same thing as the 90s mario movie did of barely following any game lore which makes it insane to me how well they did comparatively. 93 Mario movie also has issues with a huge chunk of scenes cut for time lke the thing explaining why luigi doesn't have a mustache or the final shot of the running pizza order side plot. Illuminaton mario's "ok" but lacks the raw fucking style of the original live action one. Lots of great/funny shit going on in the background too like the fact the police officer is visbly making out with a hooker barely offscreen during the arrest sequence.

I think people are just desperate for a good video game movie that they will have no problem being hypocritical regarding why one works and why the other one doesn't.

Which is not a good view to take in general. People should really be expecting better from these companies, especially with the "improved" technology. The new Mario Movie was a step in the right direction, but it was handled by Illumination... the company that does the very bare minimum in producing the crappiest of crap, which is why we have a Peach that rides the fence of being a girlboss (which would have been worse had Nintendo not done something about it) and licensed music that has no business being in the movie.

Regarding the Sonic movies, this just comes off as Paramount trying to mix the classic era with the adventure era and what we get is a movie with more human focus than the main characters. The Knuckles mini-series was absolutely insulting including political pandering bullshit.

Feels more l ike tapping into the early US/UK marketing thing that sorta perma fucked stuff consistency wise, after adventure era ended sega started try ing to appeal to people by scrubbing shit mentioning earth. ...or could be market attempt for the the sonic X guys. "Sonic's an alien!!!!!"stuff.

The main thing of the Sanic movies is that they listen to the fans, seeing they fixed "Fentanyl Sonic" o "Actual Sonic", and has Jim Carrey, who's the real star. This is confirmed seeing the third movie has twice the Jim Carrey. The movies also more or less adapt the plot of the games faithfully, going as far as including Maria's shot into stardom (indirectly though, but it's better than expected).
If the newest Mario movie had Jim Carrey and was made by a non-cringe studio, chances are it would have been more successful.
I wonder what will happen when new fans from the movies start delving into Sonic fandom and stumble upon all of the insanity lurking here...

Well that and Warner Brothers is probably the dumbest film studio on the planet, and it's very plausible they'd commit to something like that.
Yeah don't get me wrong, I didn't put it past the two companies to actually attempt this.

I'm just saying that I try to actually double check shit before I get my asshole devastated over literally nothing.
