But what about Best Visual Effects? Is Sonic 3 in general just barred from the Academy at this point?
"Best Picture" is something that's literally nominated by a group of snobs and I don't know what "qualifications" need to be met to even be considered for nomination. As far as I know, no one actually knows outside of popularity/controversy.
The fact that the Academy had to come out and say this suggests some fuckery going on behind-the-scenes because I don't think anyone was even considering it to begin with.

To be fair they said this about a lot of movies today, and that's because with the Oscars, Jeff Fowler and the team behind Sonic 3 didn't really submit it or nominate their film.
Since in order to get put into consideration for a nomination, the film studio or people behind it have to submit it. Disney for example indiscriminately nominates everything they have for awards.

I took the kids to go see it on new years and I enjoyed it a lot more than the last two simply because it was written a lot better. And the annoying human characters were kept to a minimum. I think it would've been a better story if Maria had survived and was Robotnik's mother but she was teleported to another world or something. I know it would piss a lot of fans off but my Sonic knowledge stops after the Mega Drive games so anything after that I have no idea.
I was waiting all movie for another Walk surprise, but unfortunately I was left disappointed.

I just came back from the Sonic Movie 3 and it rocked, big surprise, which is funny because Bob and his ilk are such contrarians they are trying to prop up the SECOND movie now as superior which is just worse in every way, objectively. Must be jealous there's no Game Overthinker movie featuring the Ultra Thinker and the Robo Thinker doing Dragon Ball Z moves in Egypt instead of his back garden

I bring him up because he disliked both previous films and got shit on by Sonic autists for not praising it as high art which lead to him having a melty on full display and that he should "stay away from social media because MUH MENTUL HELFF!!!"

God, I remember that debacle. It wasn't even so much that he didn't like it (really who cares about some random dude's opinion on a thing you might like), but that the film makers apparently didn't care about the Sonic franchise. Don't ask me what that even means, Arlo didn't exactly expand upon the point.

Saw it yesterday. I have to say the first 30 or so minutes were genuinely awful, but it got better as it went on. There's the running meme about "Marvel Dialogue," making fun of the large amounts of quips and overdrawn jokes from Marvel movies ("He's right behind me, isn't he?"), but let me tell you, this movie has more "Marvel Dialogue" than every single Marvel movie combined, mostly from Sonic but from others as well. This is most disgustingly apparent in the first 30 minutes when most of the scenes are focused on Sonic. Once Robotnik gets introduced, it immediately gets better, not just because Robotnik is funny and well-done, but because it introduces another character to bring the scenes away from Sonic so there are breaks between the quips, whereas at the beginning it is exhaustingly quip after quip after quip. The plot was fine, it looked good; overall, it was fine, but I have to admit I was going crazy at first because I hated it.

I guess I just haven't noticed it/cared when it came to Sonic's quips because he just has a mouth on him, and he's always had some kind of 'tude regardless of canon. I could honestly write it off as Sonic getting too cozy with Earth customs to know when or how to knock it off. Knuckles does it, too, but that's forgiving and funny because he legit doesn't know figure of speech well and when to stop boasting.

To be fair, Drinker said S4 of The Boys was shit without actually watching it which is pretty bad for a review regardless of your opinion on the guy
Matt Walsh also admitted to barely paying attention to Sonic 3 which is also really bad.
Like both remind me of when YMS said he doesn't finish the movies he reviews and sometimes watches films at 2x speed
